Summary: The proper design of photocatalysts is crucial for improving the performance of photocatalytic decomposition of water and degradation of pollutants. In this study, a composite material CdS-DETA@g-C3N5 was synthesized by combining nitrogen-rich carbon nitride with CdS-DETA, which exhibited significantly higher hydrogen evolution rate and OFLX degradation rate compared to other catalysts. The enhancements in performance were attributed to the enhancement of energy band bending, construction of a built-in electric field, and retention of high redox carriers.

Summary: Properly engineered heterojunction photocatalysts can effectively separate photoexcited electron-hole pairs and improve the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution performance. In this study, 3D bicontinuous nanoporous reduced graphene oxide (np-rGO) was used as a supporting matrix for CdS nanoparticles to achieve a highly efficient photocatalysis system for hydrogen production. The bicontinuous internal ligament and open nanopores in the 3D nanoporous heterojunction contribute to improved light absorption and utilization capacity. The construction of a p-n heterojunction with staggered band alignment in CdS/np-rGO accelerates the transport of photo-excited carriers, leading to a significant increase in hydrogen generation rate.

Summary: In this study, Bi7O9I3/g-C3N4 composites modified by lignin-derived carbon quantum dots (CQDs) were used for the synchronous photocatalytic removal of Cr(VI) and levofloxacin (LEV). The 0.5-CQD/BOI/CN photocatalyst showed enhanced light-harvesting capacity, charge separation efficiency, and electron transfer rate. Under 60 minutes of light irradiation, the photoreduction efficiency of Cr(VI) reached 100% and the degradation efficiency of LEV was 94.8%. The intermediates of LEV and the possible degradation pathway were determined and speculated using LC-MS analysis and density functional theory calculation, respectively.

Summary: The electron density regulation of active sites can optimize the hydrogen-binding strength. A new concept of antibonding-orbital occupancy state is proposed to explain the influence mechanism of electron density on the Se-H-ads bond strength. By constructing a Se-rich environment, ReSe2+x nanodots achieve first-rank adsorption energy towards atomic hydrogen. The Se-enriched environment induces the formation of electron-deficient Se(2-delta)- and increases the stability of the Se-H-ads bonds.

Summary: In this study, a ternary In2.77S4/NiS2/g-C3N4 S-scheme heterojunction was constructed by synthesizing In2.77S4/NiS2 heterojunction and introducing it to the surface of g-C3N4. The ternary heterojunction exhibited excellent light harvesting ability and improved charge carrier separation and migration compared to its components. Photocatalytic tests showed significantly higher H2 production rate for In2.77S4/NiS2/g-C3N4 compared to g-C3N4, In2.77S4, and In2.77S4/g-C3N4. Further investigation revealed the charge transfer mechanism and enhanced surface reactions due to NiS2 and more electro-chemical active sites provided by In2.77S4/NiS2. This work provides an effective method for designing novel g-C3N4-based S-scheme heterojunctions.

Summary: In this study, an electron-reversal strategy was proposed for the first time to steer the free-electron transfer in a favorable direction and weaken the S-H-ads bonds. The core-shell Au@MoS2+x cocatalyst was constructed to optimize the antibonding-orbital occupancy and generate electron-rich S(2+delta)- active sites. The increase in antibonding-orbital occupancy effectively destabilizes the H 1s-p antibonding orbital and weakens the S-H-ads bond, leading to rapid generation of visible H-2 bubbles.
