The enhanced production and secretion of high-value cajaninstilbene acid and flavonoid aglycones in Cajanus cajan (Linn.) Millsp. cell suspension cultures elicited by Aspergillus oryzae Y-29

Jiao Jiao et al.

Summary: For the first time, Cajanus cajan cell suspension cultures (CCSCs) were elicited by Aspergillus oryzae Y-29 to enhance the production of bioactive phenolic compounds. The fungus showed significant increase in cajaninstilbene acid and flavonoid aglycones in CCSCs. The elicitation also led to higher levels of these compounds in the culture media. The activation of specific genes contributed to the accumulation and secretion of these compounds in CCSCs. This study is important for obtaining high yields of valuable phenolic compounds in pharmaceutical and nutraceutical fields.
