Fate of glyphosate and its degradation products AMPA, glycine and sarcosine in an agricultural soil: Implications for environmental risk assessment

Sohaib Aslam et al.

Summary: Glyphosate can be biodegraded via the AMPA and the sarcosine/glycine pathways, producing three intermediate products - AMPA, sarcosine or glycine. The nature of non-extractable residues (NERs; harmless biogenic [NERsbiogenic] versus hazardous xenobiotic [NERsxenobiotic]) of the three intermediate compounds in glyphosate biodegradation in soils has not been investigated yet, which is crucial for assessing environmental risks.

Evolution of Oxygen Isotopologues in Phosphate and Pyrophosphate during Enzyme-Catalyzed Isotopic Exchange Reactions

Spencer R. Moller et al.

Summary: This study quantified the oxygen isotope exchange kinetics between Pi isotopologues and water using Raman spectroscopy and 31P nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) during the PPase-catalyzed 18O-16O isotope exchange reaction. The results showed that both Raman spectroscopy and NMR methods are equally applicable for monitoring the oxygen exchange kinetics between Pi isotopologue and water. However, the reliability of these methods is lower below 1% abundance and requires high concentrations of phosphorus (P).

Temperature and Aging Affect Glyphosate Toxicity and Fatty Acid Composition in Allonychiurus kimi (Lee) (Collembola)

June Wee et al.

Summary: Glyphosate, the widely used herbicide, exhibits toxicity towards soil non-target organisms depending on temperature and aging time, but the effects diminish as the residual concentration decreases. Changes in fatty acid composition suggest potential chronic effects of glyphosate on soil organisms.
