A Hybrid Response Surface Methodology and Multi-Criteria Decision Making Model to Investigate the Performance and Emission Characteristics of a Diesel Engine Fueled With Phenolic Antioxidant Additive and Biodiesel Blends

Vijay Kumar et al.

Summary: Overconsumption of fossil fuels has led to global warming and increased environmental air pollution. Recent studies have explored the use of environmentally friendly alternative fuels for diesel engines. Biodiesel, as a renewable alternative fuel, has the disadvantage of increased nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. This study investigated the effect of antioxidant-treated Jatropha biodiesel on the performance and exhaust emissions of a diesel engine, and found that the inclusion of an antioxidant significantly reduced NOx emissions.

Effect of synthetic and aromatic amine antioxidants on oxidation stability, performance, and emission analysis of waste cooking oil biodiesel

Khushbu Yadav et al.

Summary: This study aimed to enhance the oxidation stability of waste cooking oil biodiesel by adding antioxidants, leading to improved performance and reduced emissions. The addition of antioxidants, namely diphenylamine (DPA), tert-butylhydroxyquinone (TBHQ), and pyrogallol (PY), resulted in increased brake thermal efficiency and decreased brake specific energy consumption of the biodiesel blends. Furthermore, the antioxidant-treated fuels exhibited reduced NOx emissions compared to the untreated fuel. The aromatic amine antioxidant, DPA, was found to be particularly effective in enhancing performance and reducing exhaust emissions in unmodified diesel engines.
