Biomaterial types, properties, medical applications, and other factors: a recent review

Reeya Agrawal et al.

Summary: Biomaterial research is a contentious field with many companies investing in new product development. The replcement or restoration of damaged tissues or organs can improve quality of life, but it depends on the acceptance of biomaterial by the body. A wide range of materials are used in biomedical applications, and this review aims to assist researchers in selecting and assessing biomaterials.

Biocompatible chitosan/polyethylene glycol/multi-walled carbon nanotube composite scaffolds for neural tissue engineering

Shengbo Sang et al.

Summary: Carbon nanotube (CNT) composite materials have great potential in neural tissue engineering and biosensor coatings. By introducing multi-walled CNTs (MWCNTs), the performance of chitosan (CS)/polyethylene glycol (PEG) composite scaffolds can be improved, such as in terms of elastic modulus and biocompatibility. The CS/PEG/CNT composite scaffolds exhibited a highly connected porous structure and showed good resemblance to neural cell behavior and characteristics.

Fabrication and Compressive Behavior of a Micro-Lattice Composite by High Resolution DLP Stereolithography

Chow Shing Shin et al.

Summary: Lattice structures outperform stochastic foams in mechanical properties, allowing for customization through design and material changes and requiring small sizes for more hierarchical levels. A low-cost micro-stereolithographic system has been developed successfully, and reducing unit cell size from 150 to 100 microns increases compressive stiffness.

Biomimetic injectable hydrogel microspheres with enhanced lubrication and controllable drug release for the treatment of osteoarthritis

Ying Han et al.

Summary: In this study, injectable hydrogel microspheres with enhanced lubrication and controllable drug release for OA treatment were developed by bioinspired by the super-lubrication property of cartilage and catecholamine chemistry of mussel. The tribological test and drug release test showed the enhanced lubrication and sustained drug release of the microspheres. Intra-articular injection of the functionalized microspheres into rat knee joint with an OA model provided significant therapeutic effect against the development of OA.

Optimal NIV Medicare Access Promotion: Patients With Hypoventilation Syndromes A Technical Expert Panel Report From the American College of Chest Physicians, the American Association for Respiratory Care, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and the American Thoracic Society

Babak Mokhlesi et al.

Summary: The coverage criteria for home noninvasive ventilation (NIV) do not acknowledge the diversity of hypoventilation syndromes and technological advances. The Technical Expert Panel identifies key barriers and proposes crucial suggestions to improve timely access to NIV for patients, particularly those with obesity hypoventilation syndrome. Adopting these suggestions would lead to better management and appropriate therapy for Medicare beneficiaries.

Synthesis and characterization of C2C12-laden gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) from marine and mammalian sources

Kamil Elkhoury et al.

Summary: A comparative study was conducted on the physicochemical and biological properties of porcine and fish skin GelMA, revealing that fish skin GelMA showed higher swelling ratio and lower moduli post crosslinking, with better support for cell spreading. Low methacrylated fish skin GelMA has potential as a scaffold for skeletal muscle tissue engineering.
