Active Damping Control and Parameter Design Method for ISOP-Based Load Converter in DC Distribution System

Pengwei Chen et al.

Summary: In this article, an input-series-output-parallel (ISOP) load converter based on phase-shifted full-bridge (PSFB) modules is investigated to meet the diversified requirements of active damping configuration in a dc distribution system. The reduced-order impedance model of the PSFB-based ISOP converter with common-duty-ratio control is established, and two active damping control strategies using primary- and secondary-side voltages are proposed. A method for designing the parameters of active compensators is developed using impedance-frequency curves and impedance sensitivity. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control strategies and parameter design method.

Power Electronics Converters for Electric Vehicle Auxiliaries: State of the Art and Future Trends

Ramy Kotb et al.

Summary: Electric vehicles (EVs) are expected to replace traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles in the transportation and mobility market soon. To meet the increased internal power demands of EVs, a new electrical/electronic (E/E) architecture is required to convert high-voltage traction battery voltage to standard low-voltage levels with high current ratings. This paper presents possible auxiliary power module (APM) topologies for EV applications, discusses the main standards and safety requirements, compares different topologies and their control schemes, and investigates the placement of APM in the EV cooling cycle. Furthermore, the industrial trends and future research targets for APM in automotive applications are outlined.

Energy Function Based Finite Control Set Predictive Control Strategy for Single-Phase Split Source Inverters

Naki Guler et al.

Summary: This article introduces energy-function based model predictive control (EF-MPC) for single-phase split source inverters. Unlike conventional MPC methods, the proposed EF-MPC is designed with consideration of the inverter's stability. According to Lyapunov's direct method, the stability of the inverter can be ensured by maintaining a negative derivative of the energy function. The cost function in EF-MPC is designed based on the energy function, which includes errors in dc- and ac-side inductor currents. The coefficient used in the energy function formulation is shown to be redundant, eliminating the need for a weighting factor in the multiobjective cost function. The proposed EF-MPC also suppresses the amplitude of low-frequency components in the dc-side inductor current.
