Ventriculo-Arterial Coupling Is Associated With Oxygen Consumption and Tissue Perfusion in Acute Circulatory Failure

Stefan Andrei et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the association between ventriculo-arterial coupling and oxygen consumption (VO2) response in cardiac surgery patients with acute circulatory instability. The results showed that VO2 responders had a higher ventriculo-arterial (E-A/E-V) coupling ratio, and baseline E-A/E-V and SW/PVA ratios were associated with changes in VO2, highlighting the importance of measuring ventriculo-arterial coupling in patients with hemodynamic instability.

Relationship Between Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction Variation and Systemic Vascular Resistance: A Prospective Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Study

Damien Mandry et al.

Summary: This CMR study aimed to investigate whether changes in systemic vascular resistance (SVR) could explain significant long-term changes in left ventricle ejection fraction (EF) in subjects without a history of cardiac disease. The results showed that longitudinal changes in EF were inversely related to changes in blood pressure and significantly related to SVR, indicating the importance of assessing LV afterload when monitoring EF in populations at risk of vascular dysfunction.

Clinical implication of intraoperative ventricular-arterial coupling in pediatric patients undergoing ventricular septal defects repair: A retrospective cohort study

Jimi Oh et al.

Summary: This study investigated the clinical implication of intraoperative ventricular-arterial coupling derived from transesophageal echocardiography. Results showed that high postoperative ventricular-arterial coupling was associated with worse early postoperative outcomes. Ventricular-arterial coupling may serve as a valuable intraoperative analysis tool for evaluating cardiovascular performance and identifying potential treatment targets.
