Modifying diesel fuel with nanoparticles of zinc oxide to investigate its influences on engine behaviors

Upendra Rajak et al.

Summary: In this study, experimental and numerical methods were used to investigate the impact of diesel fuel blended with three different concentrations (0.025%, 0.05%, and 0.1%) of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles on the combustion, injection, performance, and emission characteristics of a diesel engine operating at various speeds. The results demonstrate that adding 0.1% ZnO nanoparticles to the fuel improves engine efficiency and combustion yield by increasing brake thermal efficiency (BTE), reducing specific fuel consumption (SFC), lowering exhaust gas temperature, decreasing NOx emissions, and increasing cylinder pressure. Additionally, the nanoparticle-added fuel also leads to a reduction in CO2 emissions compared to a diesel engine running at 2500 rpm.
