Mechanism of Nucleation Pathway Selection in Binary Lennard- Jones Solution: A Combined Study of Molecular Dynamics Simulation and Free Energy Analysis

Satoshi Watanabe et al.

Summary: In this study, molecular dynamics simulations were conducted to investigate the nucleation process in a binary Lennard-Jones system. The results showed that the nucleation pathway can be classified into four types depending on two key parameters. Furthermore, a thermodynamic model based on the formation of core-shell nuclei was developed to calculate the free energy landscapes.

Mechanism of Nucleation Pathway Selection in Binary Lennard-Jones Solution: A Combined Study of Molecular Dynamics Simulation and Free Energy Analysis

Yuya Iida et al.

Summary: In this study, molecular dynamics simulations were conducted in a binary Lennard-Jones system to investigate nucleation pathways. Four types of pathways were identified based on the strength of microscopic interactions. A thermodynamic model was developed to calculate the free energy landscapes, successfully describing the observed pathways. The model can a priori predict the nucleation pathway based on interaction parameters.

Synergistic Control of Nonlinear Growth Kinetics and Nucleation Kinetics in the Concomitant Crystallization of Aripiprazole as Reflected by the Ostwald Ratio

Zhenjie Gao et al.

Summary: The concomitant polymorphism of polycrystalline drugs during manufacturing process can lead to batch-to-batch variation and reduced drug bioavailability. Most existing studies have focused only on nucleation kinetics differences and lacked analysis of the role of growth processes in polymorph control. This study systematically investigates the concomitant crystallization of aripiprazole Form III and Form V, and finds that crystal growth has a considerable influence on the formation of concomitant polymorphism.

Complex Growth of Benzamide Form I: Effect of Additives, Solution Flow, and Surface Rugosity

Caroline A. Offiler et al.

Summary: Understanding crystal growth kinetics is important for crystalline molecular materials. This study investigates the impact of additives on the growth kinetics of benzamide form I (BZM-I) crystals and finds that the additives have minimal effect on the growth rates at low concentrations. Pure BZM-I crystals show defects and may accommodate impurities. Solution dynamics significantly affect the growth of BZM-I crystals, with different facets responding differently to solution flow.

Form selection of concomitant polymorphs: A case study informed by crystallization kinetics modeling

Weiwei Tang et al.

Summary: The study developed a population balance model to simulate a concomitant crystallization process of tolfenamic acid polymorphs, revealing the shared crystallization feature of stable form I and metastable form II, with an intermediate decline in the composition of form I in crystallized samples. Additionally, a four-quadrant scheme was used to simulate possible polymorph outcomes under various crystallization conditions.

Single Crystal Growth Kinetics of Two Polymorphs of Piracetam

Aisling Lynch et al.

Summary: The crystal growth of different polymorphs of Piracetam in ethanol and isopropanol was studied, with the metastable FII form exhibiting a faster growth rate than the stable FIII form. Temperature and solvent choice were found to strongly influence the growth kinetics of both polymorphs. This study provides insights into the crystal growth behavior and fundamental parameters of Piracetam under different experimental conditions.
