An engineering perspective on the numerics of quasi-periodic oscillations A comparison of two hyper-time approaches based on a unified framework

Simon Baeuerle et al.

Summary: The phenomenon of quasi-periodicity in deterministic dynamical systems describes stable solutions that are neither periodic nor chaotic. With increasing demand for robust numerical methods in applied dynamics and industrial applications, this paper provides an application-oriented survey of the basic theory and alternative concepts. It focuses on the computation of invariant manifolds for quasi-periodic solutions and explores the similarities between different methods. Various computational methods, including the Fourier-Galerkin method and finite difference method, are implemented and compared using the van-der-Pol equation and a rotordynamic model problem.

A new semi-analytical approach for quasi-periodic vibrations of nonlinear systems

Guang Liu et al.

Summary: This paper introduces an enhanced time-domain minimum residual method for solving the semi-analytical quasi-periodic solution for nonlinear systems. By iteratively solving the nonlinear minimum optimization problem and introducing an adaptive zero-setting curve, the approach accelerates convergence and has been verified through numerical examples.

Quasi-periodic, chaotic and travelling wave structures of modified Gardner equation

Adil Jhangeer et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the nonlinear modified Gardner equation through Lie group analysis, converting partial differential equations into ordinary differential equations using similarity reduction method and constructing exact solutions using power series technique. The Galilean transformation is used to transform the model into a planar dynamical system, and various types of phase portraits are plotted with sensitivity analysis and the application of extrinsic periodic power to study the influence on the model's behavior.

Quasi-Periodic Motion and Hopf Bifurcation of a Two-Dimensional Aeroelastic Airfoil System in Supersonic Flow

Wentao Huang et al.

Summary: This article investigates the complex dynamic behavior of a nonlinear aeroelastic airfoil model with cubic nonlinear pitching stiffness using theoretical and numerical methods. The stability conditions of equilibrium points and explicit expressions of critical bifurcation lines leading to static bifurcation and Hopf bifurcation are derived. Quasi-periodic motions on 2D and 3D tori are found near equilibrium points under certain parameter conditions, with numerical simulations in agreement with theoretical analysis.

Solitonic, quasi-periodic, super nonlinear and chaotic behaviors of a dispersive extended nonlinear Schrodinger equation in an optical fiber

Faiqa Ali et al.

Summary: This paper examines the various dynamic behaviors of the dispersive extended nonlinear Schrodinger equation using a new Phi(6)-model expansion method. The study focuses on exploring the solitary waves of the model and the impact of different parameters on Jacobian elliptic solutions. It also investigates phenomena such as bright-dark optical solitons and the transformation of the system into a planar dynamical system through Galilean transformation.

Convergence rates of harmonic balance method for periodic solution of smooth and non-smooth systems

Li Wang et al.

Summary: This paper presents a systematic and rigorous analysis on the convergence rates of the Harmonic balance Method (HB) for general smooth and non-smooth systems. The study found that when the restoring forces are discontinuous or of some special low smoothness, the convergence rates of HB become different from those of Fourier truncation. Numerical examples are studied and the results well verify the present theoretic convergence rates.
