Sensitive SARS-CoV-2 detection in wastewaters using a carbon nanodot-amplified electrochemiluminescence immunosensor

Tamara Guerrero-Esteban et al.

Summary: Given the importance of fast, efficient, and cost-effective detection of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater to control the pandemic, a new method based on a carbon nanodots-amplified electrochemiluminescence immunosensor has been proposed. The immunosensor showed high specificity and stability, with a detection limit of 1.2 pg/mL, and successfully detected SARS-CoV-2 in river and urban wastewater. This sensing platform provides a feasible and reliable tool for early virus detection and protection of the population.

Exfoliation of Alpha-Germanium: A Covalent Diamond-Like Structure

Carlos Gibaja et al.

Summary: This research introduces the exfoliation of pure alpha-germanium through a simple one-step procedure assisted by wet ball-milling, allowing gram-scale fabrication of high-quality layers with large lateral dimensions and nanometer thicknesses. The generated flakes exhibit bandgaps that depend on both the crystallographic direction and the number of layers, showing potential for new properties in 2D materials.
