Random Silica-Glass Microlens Arrays Based on the Molding Technology of Photocurable Nanocomposites

Han Zhang et al.

Summary: This study proposes novel design and fabrication methods for random silica glass microlens arrays (rSMLAs) with tunable divergent angles, and presents a detailed investigation of this technology. The fabricated rSMLAs demonstrate superior physical properties with 1.81 nm roughness, 1074.33 HV hardness, and excellent thermal stability. Meanwhile, their characterized optical performance shows high transmission in the ultraviolet spectrum. This innovative process paves a new route for fabricating rMLAs on solid silica glass and breaking down the barrier of rMLAs to broader applications.

Fabrication of micro-structured surface with controllable randomness by using FTS-based diamond turning

Shigeru Tanikawa et al.

Summary: A novel method for fabricating micro dimple arrays with controllable randomness in dimple size and depth using fast tool servo (FTS)-based single-point diamond turning was proposed in this study. Segmented cutting method improved edge accuracy and was effective for machining RSS, achieving precise matching between the machined surface and the designed surface. This machining method enables high-precision patterning of mold inserts for molding/imprinting RSS on polymer materials.

Excellent omnidirectional light trapping properties of inverted micro-pyramid structured silicon by copper catalyzed chemical etching

Avritti Srivastava et al.

Summary: This study presents a method for fabricating inverted micro-pyramids Si structures on solar-grade silicon wafers using copper catalyzed chemical etching. The resulting structures show lower reflective losses and superior light trapping ability compared to traditional texturing methods, making them promising for efficient solar cell applications.

Close packed random rectangular microlens array used for laser beam homogenization

Wei Yuan et al.

Summary: A novel close packed random rectangular microlens array (rRMLA) is proposed in this study to improve the uniformity of homogenized spot by disturbing the coherent superposition fringes. The rRMLA design involves random apertures and focal lengths to achieve phase regulation, demonstrated through theoretical simulations and experimental results.

Design for Manufacturing: Geometric Manufacturability Evaluation for Five-Axis Milling

Niechen Chen et al.

Summary: Geometric manufacturability is crucial for various manufacturing applications, especially in machining, where it impacts decisions such as setup planning, tool selection, and path strategies. This research introduces a new method for evaluating the geometric manufacturability of a part designed for five-axis milling, with case studies conducted to validate the approach.
