Encapsulated essential oils: A perspective in food preservation

Douglas Rodrigues Reis et al.

Summary: Due to their antioxidant and antimicrobial properties, essential oils have seen a high demand in recent decades. However, their incorporation into low-fat foods is challenging due to their hydrophobic nature, strong aroma, and flavor. Encapsulation has emerged as an effective solution to overcome these issues. This review discusses the current techniques for encapsulating essential oils, including emulsion-based delivery systems and membrane emulsification.

Artemisia biennis Willd.: Anti-Nociceptive effects and possible mechanisms of action

Mohammad Zarei et al.

Summary: Artemisia biennis Willd. (known as Dermane in Persian) has been traditionally used as an antinociceptive remedy in Iranian folk medicine. The essential oil from the aerial parts of Artemisia biennis Willd. showed significant anti-nociceptive effects in male Swiss mice, possibly by modulating glutamatergic mechanisms via opioid systems. Additionally, ABAEO demonstrated potent analgesic effects in thermal pain models and alleviated mechanical allodynia in mice.

Summary: In Iranian folkloric medicine, Bupleurum falcatum L. has been used as a selective analgesic remedy. The research investigated the anti-nociceptive and anti-allodynic action of Bupleurum falcatum L. roots essential oil in Swiss mice. Results showed that BFEO exhibited significant antinociceptive effects and could effectively alleviate allodynia in CSC mice by activating specific pathways and receptors.

The Distinct Functions of Dopaminergic Receptors on Pain Modulation: A Narrative Review

Xia-qing Wang et al.

Summary: Chronic pain is a societal economic burden often managed with opioids, which can lead to tolerance and hyperalgesia. Dopamine receptors, particularly D2 receptors, play a crucial role in pain modulation, with D1 receptors acting differently across various mechanisms. Targeting D2 receptors can enhance analgesic effects and provide a better approach to pain relief.
