Strategies to improve vaccination rates in people who are homeless: A systematic review

Laura K. McCosker et al.

Summary: People who are homeless are at higher risk of vaccine-preventable diseases, including COVID-19, and experience poorer health outcomes. This systematic review examined strategies to improve vaccination rates in this population and found that various approaches were effective, such as providing vaccinations at convenient locations, using accelerated schedules, and vaccinating regardless of vaccination history or serological status. These findings have important implications for developing evidence-based vaccination strategies and improving health outcomes for homeless individuals.

HPV Vaccination among Sexual and Gender Minority Youth Living with or at High-Risk for HIV

Elizabeth Mayfield Arnold et al.

Summary: A study found that the vaccination rates for human papillomavirus (HPV) were similar between sexual and gender minority youths (SGMY) and heterosexual youths, despite their different risk levels for HPV-related cancers. Higher vaccination rates were observed among younger individuals, those not using condoms, individuals with higher education, those with a primary healthcare provider, and those diagnosed with HIV. Lower vaccination rates were found among youth who were out-of-home due to mental health hospitalization, drug treatment, homelessness, or incarceration.
