Advanced magnetic resonance imaging of chronic whiplash patients: a clinical practice-based feasibility study

Lars Uhrenholt et al.

Summary: This study investigated the feasibility of using MRI techniques as non-invasive biomarkers in healthy volunteers and chronic whiplash patients. The results showed that the current MRI measurements were not sensitive enough to distinguish between chronic whiplash patients and healthy controls.

Psychiatric Sequelae Following Whiplash Injury: A Systematic Review

Haidar Muhsen Al-Khazali et al.

Summary: Anxiety, depression, PTSD, and sleep disturbance are common psychiatric outcomes following whiplash injury. However, the prevalence of these conditions varies among studies. The existing literature suggests persistent psychiatric outcomes after whiplash trauma, but there is considerable heterogeneity among studies and methodological limitations that need to be addressed in future research to prevent psychiatric sequelae.

Appropriateness of Cervical Magnetic Resonance Imaging in the Evaluation and Management of C1 Jefferson Fractures

Peter Fiester et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify adult trauma patients with C1 fractures and evaluate the difference in C1-C2 alignment between patients with and without a transverse atlantal ligament injury. The results showed that lateral ADI asymmetry, C1 lateral mass offset, and anterior ADI demonstrated high specificity for ruling in transverse atlantal ligament injury. Atlantoaxial alignment was relatively insensitive as a screening test, but sensitivity can be improved with a smaller cutoff value for lateral ADI asymmetry. These findings highlight the importance of cervical magnetic resonance imaging in the diagnostic workup and clinical management of trauma patients with an acute C1 fracture.
