Summary: This study investigates the effects of different concentrations of Bi2O3 and Li2O on the physical, structural, optical, and radiation-absorbing properties of glasses. The results show that the addition of Bi2O3 increases the density and molar volume of the glasses, while decreasing the oxygen packing density. Furthermore, the addition of Bi2O3 has different effects on the ability of the glasses to shield gamma rays and fast neutrons. These findings demonstrate the significant potential of this glass for radiation-shielding applications.

Summary: Due to low market demand and toxic elements in cathode ray tubes (CRT), sustainable recycling of CRT glasses has become important for waste management and the ecosystem. This study explored the environmental and economic benefits of using panel (PCRT) and cone (CCRT) glasses from conventional CRT as building materials in medical and nuclear facilities. The chemical composition of the glasses was analyzed using X-ray fluorescence (XRF) equipment. The nuclear shielding ability of the glasses was investigated through various parameters. Results showed that CCRT had higher radiation attenuation capacity compared to PCRT, making it a better choice for radiation shielding. The use of CRT glass for radiation-protective glasses could effectively reduce waste CRT in the environment.
