Thermochemical energy storage by calcium looping process that integrates CO2 power cycle and steam power cycle

Yongqing Xu et al.

Summary: This article introduces a new CaLP-TCES system that utilizes CO2 power cycle and steam power cycle to make full use of energy. The effects of different raw materials and organic acid modifications on the thermochemical energy storage performance of the CaO heat carriers in CaLP-TCES system are investigated. The results show that limestone is the best option for CaLP-TCES and glycine-modified limestone has a higher carbonation conversion rate. The full-day time mode of CaLP-TCES has a higher overall system efficiency and is more applicable for concentrated solar power.

Gemma Gasa et al.

Summary: This study compares the environmental impacts of tower solar thermal plants with different storage capacities and finds that increasing the storage capacity reduces the environmental impacts, but the reduction becomes smaller when the storage capacity reaches a certain level. The plant with a 9-hour storage capacity is the most environmentally efficient among the four plants analyzed.
