Nano-sized cadmium-benzothiazole Schiff base complexes: Synthesis, characterization, and the impact of surfactants for cadmium determination

Mohammed A. A. Kassem et al.

Summary: In this study, three benzothiazole-Schiff bases were synthesized and used to chelate Cd (II) to form nano-sized solid complexes. These complexes were characterized using TEM, FT-IR, and XRD. Three spectrophotometric approaches for ultra-trace quantification of divalent cadmium were developed and their sensitivity was enhanced using micellar medium. The influence of various factors on the quantification of cadmium ion was investigated and determined. The developed methods showed good calibration curve validity and low detection limits, and were successfully applied to quantify Cd (II) ion in water samples.

Design of a novel -NOON- tetradentate Schiff-base scaffold supported by ?-tetralone and benzothiazole moieties with its Cu2+, Co2+ , and Cd2+ chelates

Doaa A. El-Kot et al.

Summary: A Schiff base ligand, alpha-H2T, containing four active coordination sites was synthesized and used to prepare bivalent transition metal complexes with Cu2+, Co2+, and Cd2+. Characterization of the complexes was conducted using various spectral techniques along with elemental, magnetic, and thermal analyses. The decomposition kinetics of the complexes were evaluated using Coats-Redfern and Horowitz-Metzger models. Additionally, DFT calculations were performed to optimize the structures of the solid compounds, and cyclic voltammetry studies were conducted to investigate the electrochemical behavior and ligation effect of the metal ions.
