Engineering Cobalt Oxide with Coexisting Cobalt Defects and Oxygen Vacancies for Enhanced Catalytic Oxidation of Toluene

Yifei Li et al.

Summary: Coexistence of cobalt defects and oxygen vacancies has a significant effect on the performance of catalysts, improving the catalytic activity for toluene oxidation. A Co3-xO4-y catalyst with both cobalt defects and oxygen vacancies was synthesized, achieving over 90% toluene conversion under light illumination for 10 minutes at a temperature of around 180 degrees Celsius. Cobalt defects promote the formation of oxygen vacancies, which accelerate the conversion of intermediates and promote the degradation of toluene.

Roles of Oxygen Species in Low-Temperature Catalytic o-Xylene Oxidation on MOF-Derived Bouquetlike CeO2

Ji Mei et al.

Summary: In this study, MOF-derived CeO2-X catalysts were prepared via the pyrolysis of MOF precursors with different ratios of cerium nitrate to trimesic acid. Among them, the bouquet like CeO2-1 showed the best activity for low-temperature catalytic o-xylene oxidation. The rich active oxygen species and abundant oxygen vacancies in CeO2-1 played a crucial role in its superior catalytic activity.

The dynamic competition in adsorption between gaseous benzene and moisture on metal-organic frameworks across their varying concentration levels

Botao Liu et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) offer a new approach for air/gas purification systems through adsorption and catalysis. Investigating the adsorption behavior of two MOF sorbents with gaseous benzene showed the high reactivity of Cu-metal sites compared to Zr sites. Water vapor competitively inhibited the benzene adsorption mechanism, particularly at low benzene concentrations and high relative humidity levels.

Platinum deposited on 2D and 3D mesoporous silica materials for the catalytic oxidation of volatile organic compounds: The oxidation of m-xylene and methanol

Ching-Shiun Chen et al.

Summary: The study compared Pt particles deposited on 3D cage-type SBA-16 and 2D-hexagonal SBA-15 mesoporous silica for the total oxidation of m-xylene and methanol. Pt particles on SBA-15 showed better catalytic performance due to their stronger ability to dissociate reaction molecules and produce smaller particles, enhancing catalytic activity in oxidation reactions. This indicates that the support of SBA-15 leads to notable CO formation while also exhibiting high activity for methanol oxidation.
