Pore Structure evolution and fractal analysis of Shenhua non-caking coal during low-temperature oxidation

Lulu Fan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the evolution of pore structure during low-temperature oxidation of coal using low-temperature nitrogen adsorption and mercury intrusion porosimetry. The results showed that as the oxidation degree increased, the pore connectivity improved, but the pore volume, especially the number of micropores, decreased significantly. The surface of the pores became rougher and the structure became less heterogenous after low-temperature oxidation. Additionally, a exponential relationship was observed between the comprehensive fractal dimension and the gas yield.

Study on the pore structure and radon release characteristics of coal in northern China

Rui Ding et al.

Summary: The present study investigates the pore structure characteristics of coal samples from eleven coal mines in northern China and explores its relationship with the radon exhalation rate. It is found that low-rank coals have dominant micropores while medium and high-rank coals have dominant mesopores. The volume of mesopores and micropores in medium and high-rank coal samples is controlled by ash yield. The radon emission rate shows a positive linear correlation with the micropore volumes of the analyzed coal samples.

Dynamic identification and radium-radon response mechanism of floor mixed water source in high ground temperature coal mine

Pinghua Huang et al.

Summary: This study successfully established a dynamic identification model of limestone-mixed water source using a radioisotope distribution model and a multi-element mixed mass balance calculation method. By applying a radium-radon dating model to determine the age of groundwater, the negative correlation between the age of deep groundwater and temperature was revealed. The research results provide an important new method to improve coal mine safety production.

Modeling char surface area evolution during coal pyrolysis: Evolving characteristics with coal rank

He Yang et al.

Summary: The trend of changing N-2 adsorption specific surface area during pyrolysis is significantly affected by coal rank and the arrangement of planar polycyclic aromatic structures in char. Two exponents introduced in the model can predict the specific surface area of various coals and a correlation between the fraction ratio of crosslinked metaplast to volatile yield and the order degree of aromatic structure arrangement is proposed. The model can also predict transition characteristics of subbituminous coal based on temperature and heating rates.

Experimental study on the mechanism of radon exhalation during coal spontaneous combustion in goaf

Bin Zhou et al.

Summary: The study measured radon exhalation from coal samples with different degrees of metamorphism at different temperatures and explored six main factors affecting radon exhalation. The results show that radon exhalation increases first and then decreases with the increase of temperature. Radon mainly exists in coal through dissolution in water and adsorption and closure in capillary pores. The increase in radon exhalation is mainly caused by radon dispersion and migration due to pore water evaporation and coal pyrolysis as temperature rises.
