The effect of food thermal processes on the residue concentration of systemic and non-systemic pesticides in apples

Izabela Hrynko et al.

Summary: The present study aimed to investigate the distribution and migration of eleven pesticides in apples and discuss their behavior under different thermal processes. Variations in pesticide concentration between the skin and pulp of apples were observed, and different thermal processes showed varying degrees of pesticide reduction. The results provide valuable insights into the relationship between selected pesticides and their removal efficacy.

Distribution, migration and changes of typical chemical preservatives on orange during storage and processing

Mengna Zhang et al.

Summary: In order to evaluate the safety of preservatives in oranges, the distribution, migration, and changes of three common preservatives (prochloraz, imazalil, and thiophanate-methyl) during storage and processing were analyzed. The preservatives entered the oranges rapidly within 2 hours, with the highest levels found in the outer yellow peel, followed by the stem, middle white peel, and finally the pulp. The ability of the preservatives to migrate within the fruit was inversely related to their octanol/water partition coefficients. Residual preservatives and their metabolites in orange pulp were less than 0.84 mg/kg during storage. Orange juice and pectin processing effectively removed the residues, with processing factors (PFs) ranging from 0.159 to 0.446 and 0.014 to 0.059. However, for tangerine peel, the process increased the levels of residual preservatives with PFs ranging from 2.964 to 6.004. Thus, caution is warranted regarding the risk of dietary exposure to tangerine peel and essential oil.

Pesticide residues analysis in passion fruit and its processed products by LC-MS/MS and GC-MS/MS: Method validation, processing factors and dietary risk assessment

Joseane de Oliveira Mozzaquatro et al.

Summary: A method for detecting 80 pesticides in passion fruit was validated, and the results showed that some unauthorized pesticides were found in passion fruit. However, the consumption of passion fruit products does not pose a health concern based on chronic and acute exposure.

The present situation of pesticide residues in China and their removal and transformation during food processing

Changjian Li et al.

Summary: Pesticide residues are a major concern for food safety, with China's fruit and vegetable industry serving as a backdrop for understanding this issue. Processing methods play a role in the removal of pesticide residues, with the continuing presence of highly toxic pesticides despite bans. The development of high-resolution mass spectrometry and rapid detection instruments is the future trend for pesticide monitoring.

The effect of drying processes on pesticide residues in orange (Citrus sinensis)

Busra Acoglu et al.

Summary: Different drying conditions have a significant impact on pesticide residue levels in orange slices, with hot air drying showing greater reduction compared to vacuum drying. Factors affecting degradation rate during vacuum drying include temperature, pressure, and microwave pretreatment, while hot air drying results in the highest degradation rate for buprofezin and thiophanate-methyl.
