Mohammad Imran et al.

Summary: Plant-derived compounds, specifically antioxidants, play a crucial role in counteracting free radicals associated with diseases. Their ability to prevent and regulate the formation of radicals through decomposition has been extensively studied and documented. This review focuses on the molecular mechanisms of various flavonoids, such as quercetin, kaempferol, naringenin, epicatechin, and epicatechin gallate, and their potential in fighting against different types of cancers. Additionally, the application of nanotechnologies, including polymeric and lipid-based nanoparticles, liposomes, and metallic nanocarriers, for delivering these flavonoids in cancer treatment is discussed. Moreover, combination therapies involving flavonoids and other anti-cancer agents are explored, highlighting their effectiveness in managing various malignancies.

Agarwood Oil Nanoemulsion Attenuates Cigarette Smoke-Induced Inflammation and Oxidative Stress Markers in BCi-NS1.1 Airway Epithelial Cells

Gabriele De Rubis et al.

Summary: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is an irreversible inflammatory respiratory disease caused by chronic cigarette smoke exposure. Traditional treatments focus on reducing symptoms, but fail to regulate oxidative stress and inflammation, resulting in lung damage. This study explores the potential of agarwood essential oil nanoemulsion (agarwood-NE) as a promising treatment option for COPD by demonstrating its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. The findings show that agarwood-NE successfully counters the pro-inflammatory effects of cigarette smoke extract by reducing the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines and inducing the expression of anti-inflammatory mediators and antioxidant genes.

Summary: This study introduces the concept of tea tree oil nanoparticles as an antifungal delivery system, and demonstrates its antifungal activity and safety through experiments. Tea tree oil is coated with chitosan, inserted into liposomal bilayers, and functionalized with another layer of chitosan to form the TNSAD. In vitro experiments confirm the potent inhibition of fungi by TNSAD, with no cytotoxicity at a concentration of <= 5 mg/ml. In vivo experiments show that the system can completely eliminate fungal cells within tissues when used systematically. This natural design represents a potential antifungal agent and shows promise for the treatment of systemic and topical fungal infections.
