Investigation of effects of different moving heat source scanning patterns on thermo-mechanical behavior in direct energy deposition manufacturing

Seyedeh Elnaz Mirazimzadeh et al.

Summary: This study investigates the thermo-mechanical characteristics of different scanning patterns in laser cladding-based additive manufacturing processes. The results show that geometry plays a role in determining the best scanning pattern. Further research is needed to assess the influences of geometry in tandem with scanning patterns and to introduce unique AM tool paths.

Multi-energy source (MES) configuration for bead shape control in wire-based directed energy deposition (w-DED)

Guangyu Chen et al.

Summary: The study on the use of the multi-energy source method for wire-based directed energy deposition demonstrated independent control of layer width and height. By adjusting wire feed speed and laser scanning width, the shape and size of the bead were successfully controlled. Experimental results showed the significance of the multi-energy source method for wire-based directed energy deposition.

A simplified modelling approach for thermal behaviour analysis in hybrid plasma arc-laser additive manufacturing

Chong Wang et al.

Summary: A three-dimensional finite element model was developed to analyze the thermal behavior in hybrid plasma transferred arc-laser additive manufacturing. The model showed good agreement with experimental data and revealed that the geometry of the melt pool is more sensitive to laser power and travel speed.

A three-dimensional wire-feeding model for heat and metal transfer, fluid flow, and bead shape in wire plasma arc additive manufacturing

Xin Chen et al.

Summary: A three-dimensional wire-feeding model was developed to study the transient coupling behavior in wire plasma arc additive manufacturing. The model included a novel surface heat source model and an improved momentum source of the arc force. Simulation results agreed reasonably with experimental data, showing three different metal transfer modes as wire-feeding speed increased. The effects of arc shading and metal transfer on melt pool dynamics and bead shape were discussed.
