Evolution of Small and Micro Wetlands and Their Driving Factors in the Yangtze River Delta-A Case Study of Wuxi Area

Jiamin Zhang et al.

Summary: Understanding the long-term dynamics and driving factors behind small and micro wetlands is crucial for their management and sustainability. This study used satellite image data and classification methods to assess the impacts of natural and anthropogenic factors on the spatiotemporal evolution of wetlands in the Wuxi area. The results showed that natural wetlands were prominent, with an increasing scale of small and micro wetlands over time. The distribution of wetlands was influenced by both natural and human activities, with human activities becoming the dominant factor.

Rapid expansion of lakes in the endorheic basin on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau since 2000 and its potential drivers

Wenhui Liu et al.

Summary: The lakes in the endorheic basin of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau have been rapidly expanding since 2000, primarily due to increased precipitation and accelerated permafrost degradation. Retreating glaciers play a role in lake growth, but cannot fully explain the expansion observed.

Refining the concept of hydrological connectivity for large floodplain systems: Framework and implications for eco-environmental assessments

Yunliang Li et al.

Summary: This study presents a framework to refine the concept of surface hydrological connectivity by combining hydrodynamic modeling experiments, threshold effects, and geostatistical connectivity analysis. Results show that the joint role of water depth and flow velocity has a more dynamic and complex effect on effective connectivity than other metrics. The floodplain is more sensitive than the lake's main flow channels under different connectivity conditions, and the lake-floodplain system exhibits dynamic threshold behavior with seasonally varying water depth and velocity thresholds.
