Mitigation of Thermal Energy in Membrane Distillation for Environmental Sustainability

My Thi Tra Ngo et al.

Summary: Membrane distillation (MD) is a sustainable water treatment method that effectively removes non-volatile compounds from challenging saline water, providing near-to-zero liquid discharge. However, high energy consumption hinders its economic viability for industrial applications. This review evaluates the energy consumption of MD compared to other existing technologies and discusses strategies to minimize energy consumption, such as the utilization of renewable energy sources and the development of membrane materials/configurations.

Effect of surfactant on stability, thermal conductivity, and viscosity of aluminium oxide-methanol nanofluids for heat transfer applications

R. M. Mostafizur et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the stability and thermophysical properties of alumina-methanol nanofluids. The results showed that alumina-methanol nanofluids with cationic surfactant remained stable for over 180 days. The thermal conductivity, viscosity, and density of the nanofluids increased with increasing weight fraction of nanoparticles. The addition of surfactant only slightly affected the thermophysical properties of the nanofluids.

Characterization and Tribological Performance of Polyethersulfone/PTFE Compound Filled with Na-Montmorillonite

Zhen Zuo et al.

Summary: The abrasion resistance of PES/PTFE-based composites was effectively improved by introducing NaMMT as a reinforcing filler, attributing to the load bearing of NaMMT on the worn surface. The polymer sample with 20 wt% NaMMT exhibited the best anti-wear performance, with its densification worn morphology contributing to the improvement. Additionally, the introduction of NaMMT disrupted the self-lubricating property of PTFE transfer films, resulting in a slightly larger friction coefficient for NaMMT/PES/PTFE compounds compared to pure PTFE and PES/PTFE compounds.
