Luminol-hydrogen peroxide-horseradish peroxidase chemiluminescence intensification by kosmotrope ammonium sulfate

Hajime Karatani

Summary: The kosmotropic effect induced by ammonium sulfate allows for a significant intensification of chemiluminescence in the luminol-hydrogen peroxide-horseradish peroxidase reaction. This effect can be stably induced and shows a linear relationship with HRP concentration.

Molecular basis of melatonin protective effects in metastasis: A novel target of melatonin

Fatemeh Sadoughi et al.

Summary: Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, with low 5-year survival rates due to recurrence and metastasis. Melatonin (MLT), derived from tryptophan and secreted by the pineal gland, has shown various anti-tumor effects and has been studied for its potential in treating different types of cancer. This review focuses on the mechanisms of MLT's effects on inhibiting metastasis in lethal cancers including lung, breast, stomach, kidney, colon, liver, bladder, and pancreas, targeting molecules and signaling pathways involved in angiogenesis, extracellular matrix remodeling, migration, and epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition.

Melatonin: A Neurotrophic Factor?

Armida Miranda-Riestra et al.

Summary: Melatonin, a hormone that synchronizes the internal environment with the photoperiod, has various functions such as regulating sleep-wake rhythm, body temperature, immune system, cardiovascular system, and providing neuroprotection by scavenging free radicals. Recent research supports its role as a neurotrophic factor, contributing to neuronal survival, proliferation, and differentiation.

Melatonin protects sheep endometrial epithelial cells against lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammation in vitro

Wenbo Ge et al.

Summary: This study investigated the distribution of melatonin and its receptors in the sheep uterus, as well as its protective effects against inflammation in endometrial epithelial cells. The results showed that melatonin reduced the expression of inflammatory factors and inhibited the activation of inflammatory signaling pathways. These protective effects were mediated by melatonin receptors and the PI3K/AKT pathway.

Comparison of Analytical Methods for the Rapid Determination of Melatonin in Food Supplements

Sandra Barreiro Astray et al.

Summary: The study comparing two methods for determining melatonin in food supplements showed that constant-wavelength synchronous spectrofluorimetry is a fast, simple, and economical method for rapid and accurate determination of a single compound, while the HPLC-VWD-FLD method is more suitable for the determination of specified compounds in complex samples due to its high sensitivity and separation efficiency.

Melatonin protects against PM2.5-induced lung injury by inhibiting ferroptosis of lung epithelial cells in a Nrf2-dependent manner

Fan Guohua et al.

Summary: This study investigated the potential roles of melatonin in PM2.5-induced lung injury and found that melatonin treatment alleviated lung pathological injury, edema, and inflammatory cell infiltration. Melatonin also inhibited ferroptosis and lipid peroxidation products in lung tissues and activated Nrf2 to protect against lung injury.
