Single-atom Nb anchored on graphitic carbon nitride for boosting electron transfer towards improved photocatalytic performance

Jianmin Luo et al.

Summary: Single-atom Nb anchored on g-C3N4 showed enhanced photocatalytic performance, attributed to the formation of Nb-C bonds and N defects. The anchoring of single-atom Nb promoted the formation of N defects in g-C3N4, which accelerated the directional transfer of photogenerated charge carriers. Additionally, N defects acted as active centers for photocatalytic reactions. This study emphasizes the importance of the synergistic effect of anchoring Nb and generating N defects for developing advanced g-C3N4-based photocatalysts.

Urchin-like Nb2O5 hollow microspheres enabling efficient and selective photocatalytic C-C bond cleavage in lignin models under ambient conditions

Huan Chen et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the high activity and selectivity of novel urchin-like Nb2O5 hollow microspheres for cleaving C-α-C-β bonds of lignin model compounds to produce aromatic oxygenates. The superior performance of the material is attributed to the presence of more exposed active sites, efficient charge separation, and active crystal facets.

Cleavage/cross-coupling strategy for converting β-O-4 linkage lignin model compounds into high valued benzyl amines via dual C-O bond cleavage

Le Jia et al.

Summary: Lignin, as a component of lignocellulosic biomass, poses a great challenge for degradation and utilization due to its strong and stable linkages. A cleavage/cross-coupling strategy has been developed to convert lignin model compounds into high value-added compounds. This study presents a palladium-catalyzed cleavage/cross-coupling reaction for the preparation of benzyl amine compounds and phenols through dual C-O bond cleavage.

Sunlight photocatalytic degradation of ofloxacin using UiO-66/wood composite photocatalysts

Linhong Shi et al.

Summary: UiO-66 was synthesized in situ on wood via a one-step solvothermal method, resulting in the UiO-66/wood composite with excellent catalytic performance. The composite exhibited a better degradation rate for ofloxacin under simulate sunlight compared to UiO-66 and wood alone. The photocatalytic mechanism was determined to involve the generation of superoxide radicals and hydroxyl radicals.

Insights on selection of lignosulfonates for modification of polysulfone

Jia-Jia Zhang et al.

Summary: This study provides new insights into the modification of polysulfone using lignosulfonate, focusing on the selection of lignosulfonate to control the structure and properties of the composite materials. The results show that blending LGS-Mg or LFS-Ca can enhance or reduce the porosity of polysulfone films. Blending different ions of lignosulfonate with the polysulfone network enhances the thermal-mechanical properties of the films without significantly modifying the molecular structure and thermal stability below 520 degrees C.

Capillary and Non-Capillary Absorption of Wood Evaluated by FT-Raman Spectroscopy and Capillary Rise Method

Qing Shen

Summary: The study compares wood absorption at capillary and non-capillary locations using laser-based FT-Raman spectroscopy and liquid-based capillary rise methods. It shows that capillary has greater absorption ability due to its natural pore structure, while the absorption of polar and non-polar liquids differs in these locations due to various interactions, such as Lewis acid-base interactions.

Meng-Yuan Zhang et al.

Summary: The static mixing of positively charged chitosan (CS) and negatively charged lignosulfonate (LGS) solutions resulted in the formation of CS/LGS mixed solutions with distinct phase distributions, where the electrostatic interaction between CS and LGS was influenced by the static mixing time. Additionally, different mixing ratios led to the formation of different phase structures in the mixed solutions.
