Bifunctional Alloy/Solid-Electrolyte Interphase Layer for Enhanced Potassium Metal Batteries Via

Junpeng Xie et al.

Summary: Potassium (K) metal batteries have potential for commercial development, but the arbitrary dendrite growth and side reactions of K metal hinder their progress. Interface engineering between the current collector and K metal can improve the performance by guiding K metal deposition and suppressing side reactions. A bifunctional layer with an O/F-rich Sn-K alloy and a preformed solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) layer has been designed to achieve this. The bifunctional layers enable low nucleation overpotential, high Coulombic efficiency, and stable operation of K metal batteries.

Building Metal-Molecule Interface towards Stable and Reversible Zn Metal Anodes for Aqueous Rechargeable Zinc Batteries

Hongyu Qin et al.

Summary: This study introduces a thiourea additive to improve the performance of aqueous zinc ion batteries (AZIBs) by constructing a unique metal-molecule interface, which regulates the interface chemistry of the zinc electrode and the electrolyte environment. The metal-molecule interface acts as a corrosion inhibitor to alleviate water-induced side reactions and as a regulator for promoting homogeneous zinc deposition, resulting in a corrosion-free and dendrite-free zinc anode. The zinc|zinc symmetric cell exhibits an extended lifespan and high cumulative capacity, while the zinc|V2O5 full cell shows a high capacity retention after cycles.

The Anionic Chemistry in Regulating the Reductive Stability of Electrolytes for Lithium Metal Batteries

Nan Yao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the role of anionic chemistry in regulating the structure and stability of electrolytes through computational and experimental approaches. The research reveals that introducing anions into the Li+ solvation sheaths can enhance the reductive stability of solvents while decreasing the reductive stability of anions. Based on these findings, new strategies for building stable electrolytes are proposed. This work provides insights into the mysterious anionic chemistry and contributes to the rational design of advanced electrolytes for practical Li metal batteries.

High-rate and dendrite-free liquid alloy anode for high energy potassium metal batteries

Tingting Luo et al.

Summary: Potassium ion batteries, with their low-cost and high theoretical capacity, are promising candidates for electrochemical energy storage. However, the growth of dendrites limits their performance. In this study, a flexible and processable graphene-based liquid alloy anode (Na-K@rGO) was designed to address this issue. The anode exhibited excellent cycle stability and rate performance, with no dendrite growth, thanks to the unique structure and properties of the graphene matrix.
