Surface compositional dynamics in a PtNi bimetallic alloy under simulated operational conditions: Electrochemical and NAP-XPS Study

Xianxian Xie et al.

Summary: Platinum-based bimetallic alloys possess unique activities exceeding those of pure platinum. They suffer from surface structural reorganization under operating conditions, significantly affecting their lifetime performance. This study investigates the surface compositional changes in a PtNi catalyst during repetitive cycles and confirms the resulting catalyst deactivation.

A compact photoreactor for automated H2 photoproduction: Revisiting the (Pd, Pt, Au)/TiO2 (P25) Schottky junctions

Pablo Jimenez-Calvo et al.

Summary: The configuration and geometry of chemical reactors significantly impact performance evaluation and the development of thermodynamic and kinetic model reactions for photocatalytic materials. Lack of accurate transport profiles for mass, heat, and photons in photochemical reactors hinders comparison between experiments and standardization. This study proposes a compact stainless-steel photoreactor for hydrogen photoproduction and uses TiO2 Schottky junctions with Pd, Pt, or Au nanoparticles to validate the reactor's operation. Results show improved profiles and increased quantum yields compared to previous studies.

Facile construction of carbon doped carbon nitride tube with increased π-electron density for highly efficient hydrogen production

Shuo Zhao et al.

Summary: A microtube-shaped carbon doped carbon nitride photocatalyst has been developed, which increases the pi-electron density and enhances the catalytic performance, particularly in water splitting under visible light. The unique tubular texture and the effective pi delocalization caused by carbon doping broaden the light absorption range, boost the charge carrier separation and transfer, and enhance the hydrogen evolution rate by 3.1 times. This study highlights the importance of carbon doping in improving the catalytic performance of carbon nitride-based photocatalysts for high H2 generation rate.

Emerging cocatalysts in TiO2-based photocatalysts for light-driven catalytic hydrogen evolution: Progress and perspectives

Changlei Xia et al.

Summary: TiO2-based photocatalysts have been crucial for solar-driven hydrogen production, but the poor separation of electron-hole pairs has limited their activity. Coupling with cocatalysts can effectively suppress charge recombination and enhance active centers for boosting H-2 evolution performance.
