The effect of microstructure and mechanical properties on sliding wear and cavitation erosion of plasma coatings sprayed from Al2O3+40 wt% TiO2 agglomerated powders

Leszek Latka et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the influence of 40 wt% TiO2 addition to Al2O3 and the selection of plasma spray parameters on the morphology, microstructure, microhardness and adhesion of coatings. The tribological behavior and cavitation erosion performance of the coatings were evaluated. The study found that increasing the torch scan speed and decreasing the spraying distance improved the densification and mechanical properties of the coatings, leading to enhanced cavitation erosion resistance.

Effect of Al2O3 layer thickness on leakage current and dielectric properties of atomic layer deposited Al2O3/TiO2/Al2O3 nano-stack

Partha Sarathi Padhi et al.

Summary: To address leakage current issues in single layer oxide thin films, Al2O3/TiO2/Al2O3 (ATA) nano-stacks were fabricated using atomic layer deposition technique. By introducing 1-5 nm barrier layers, leakage paths were reduced and charge carriers were trapped at the interfaces, resulting in improved leakage current density, breakdown field, and dielectric loss. The ATA structure with a thickness of approximately 1 nm demonstrated high capacitance density, low dielectric loss, and low leakage current density, making it a promising material for energy storage and gate dielectric applications.

Laser shock peening rounds influencing microstructural and mechanical properties of 300M steel

Yi Xiong et al.

Summary: Laser shock peening (LSP) is used on 300M steel to create surface gradient structures that enhance performance and safety. The effects of LSP rounds on microstructure and mechanical properties were studied to optimize the process. One LSP round improved smoothness, surface nanocrystallization, and gradient structure, leading to increased strength and plasticity. However, excessive LSP rounds can decrease surface roughness and mechanical properties despite increased surface nanocrystallization.

Influence of layer number and sintering temperature on microstructural, tribological, and corrosion behavior of Al2O3-TiO2 multilayer coatings

Fatma Sezgi Eraslan et al.

Summary: The effects of layer number and sintering temperature on the microstructure, wear, and corrosion properties of Al2O3-TiO2 multilayer coatings were investigated. The corrosion rate decreased with increasing layer number, but the sensitivity to corrosion varied. The 4-layer coating sintered at 1000 degrees C achieved the highest wear strength and corrosion resistance.

Comparing the phase transformation of continuous alumina fiber and xerogels derived from the same precursor

Ming Cheng et al.

Summary: Phase transformation plays a crucial role in determining the microstructures and properties of sol-gel prepared alumina fiber and powders. The study found that alumina precursor fiber and xerogels have similar chemical structures and both exhibit amorphous phases after preheating. However, the transformation temperature from gamma-Al2O3 to alpha-Al2O3 in the fiber is lower than that in the xerogels, indicating the fiber is easier to completely convert into the alpha-Al2O3 phase.
