Comparative investigation of wire arc additive manufacturing of Al-5%Mg alloy with and without external alternating magnetic field

Wenyong Zhao et al.

Summary: In this investigation, an external longitudinal alternating magnetic field is introduced into the wire arc additive manufacturing system to optimize the fabrication quality of aluminum alloy. The study comprehensively examines the effects of the external magnetic field on the arc behavior, metal transfer, deposit morphology, microstructure, and mechanical properties of the WAAM process. The results show that the excitation current and frequency have significant influences on the process parameters and can improve the surface accuracy and microstructure uniformity of thin-wall parts.

Metal transfer behavior during CMT-based Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing of Ti-6Al-4V alloy

Siyu Zhou et al.

Summary: CMT-Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (CMT-WAAM) is a manufacturing method with low heat input and high production efficiency, but the surface geometric accuracy of the fabricated sample, especially for titanium alloy deposition, is inferior. This study analyzed the metal transfer behavior of titanium alloys during CMTWAAM using a high-speed camera to optimize the process parameters. The results showed that a hybrid metal transfer mode occurred in the CMT + P mode, and the impact of I-p1 on droplet diameter was more significant. Additionally, noticeable oxide skin was observed on the surface of the flowing molten pool in the CMT mode. Compared with the CMT mode, new spatter types were generated in the CMT + P mode.

Molten pool behaviors and forming appearance of robotic GMAW on complex surface with various welding positions

Zeqi Hu et al.

Summary: In the study of robotic GMAW on complex surfaces, the behaviors of molten pool and forming appearance were investigated by developing a computational fluid dynamics model and conducting deposition experiments. It was found that gravity had varying effects on the flow field and forming appearance at different welding positions, with the influence increasing with welding current and surface geometry angles. The findings provide insights into the molten metal forming mechanism on complex surfaces and suggest ways to improve forming appearance.

Xiangman Zhou et al.

Summary: This paper aims to adjust the unsymmetrical arc shape and plasma flow in wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) by proposing welding torch tilt deposition and external parallel magnetic field-assisted deposition. The simulations show that certain angles and magnetic flux densities can effectively balance the electric arc and shielding gas. This study provides a theoretical basis and reference for optimizing WAAM process parameters.
