The Potential Impact of COVID-19 on Health-Related Quality of Life in Children and Adolescents: A Systematic Review

Si Nae Ahn

Summary: This systematic review examines the impact of COVID-19 on the health-related quality of life of children and adolescents, finding differences in oral symptoms, functional limitations, emotional well-being, and social well-being among these groups. Furthermore, it highlights the relative scarcity of studies investigating the latest evidence of changes in HRQoL for children and adolescents due to COVID-19.

A Web-Based, Time-Use App To Assess Children's Movement Behaviors: Validation Study of My E-Diary for Activities and Lifestyle (MEDAL)

Sarah Yi Xuan Tan et al.

Summary: MEDAL is a web-based diary designed for collecting time-use information from children. This study evaluated the validity of MEDAL for assessing children's movement behaviors by comparing self-reported and accelerometer-measured time spent in movement behavior among children aged 10-11 years in Singapore. The results showed significant differences between self-reported and accelerometer-measured time spent in different movement behaviors, with children reporting lower light physical activity and higher moderate-to-vigorous physical activity, inactivity, and night sleep compared to the accelerometer measurements. While there was a moderate-to-strong correlation between self-reported and accelerometer-measured time spent in movement behavior, agreement was poor for all behaviors. Differences in reporting accuracy were also observed between weekdays and weekend days.

Meeting 24-h movement guidelines and associations with health related quality of life of Australian adolescents

Asaduzzaman Khan et al.

Summary: The study found that meeting more recommendations within the Australian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines was associated with better health related quality of life outcomes in adolescents. However, only a small percentage of adolescents met all the recommendations, indicating the need for promoting and supporting adherence to these behaviors.
