Triboelectric Nanogenerators-Based Therapeutic Electrical Stimulation on Skin: from Fundamentals to Advanced Applications

Weijiang Wang et al.

Summary: The discovery of the therapeutic roles of electrical stimulation on skin has led to significant research efforts on electrical stimulation suppliers. Among them, triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) have emerged as a self-sustainable bioelectronic system capable of generating self-powered and biocompatible electrical stimulation for superior therapeutic effects on skin applications. This article provides a brief review of TENGs-based electrical stimulation on skin, discussing its fundamentals and feasibility in adjusting physiological and pathological processes. It then categorizes and reviews emerging representative skin applications of TENGs-based electrical stimulation, focusing on antibacterial therapy, wound healing, and transdermal drug delivery. Lastly, the challenges and perspectives for further advancing TENGs-based electrical stimulation as a powerful and versatile therapeutic strategy are discussed, emphasizing the opportunities in multidisciplinary research and biomedical applications.

Cell-Reprogramming-Inspired Dynamically Responsive Hydrogel Boosts the Induction of Pluripotency via Phase-Separated Biomolecular Condensates

Fei Zhu et al.

Summary: Using a synthetic-biology-based strategy, a cell-reprogramming-inspired dynamically responsive hydrogel was developed. This hydrogel possesses dynamic bioresponsiveness and can accurately sense metabolic remodeling and extracellular acidification during cell reprogramming. The mechanical properties of the hydrogel change accordingly, triggering the formation of Yes-associated protein (YAP) biomolecular condensates at the right timing, leading to a faster and more efficient generation of iPSCs. Overall, this study reveals the robust induction of pluripotency through the coordination of cell-reprogramming-inspired dynamically responsive hydrogel and phase-separated biomolecular condensates.

Restoration of Sinusoid Fenestrae Followed by Targeted Nanoassembly Delivery of an Anti-Fibrotic Agent Improves Treatment Efficacy in Liver Fibrosis

Fenfen Li et al.

Summary: This study presents an integrated systemic strategy for liver fibrosis treatment by pretreating with the soluble guanylate cyclase stimulator, riociguat, followed by targeted delivery of the anti-fibrosis agent, JQ1, using peptide-nanoparticles. The riociguat reverses liver sinusoid capillarization to facilitate the transport of JQ1 through the liver sinusoid endothelium wall and enhance its accumulation in the Disse space. The strategy results in significant fibrosis resolution in fibrotic mice. Restoring liver sinusoidal endothelial cell fenestrae by riociguat represents a promising approach for liver fibrosis treatment.

Autophagy-induced intracellular signaling fractional nano-drug system for synergistic anti-tumor therapy

Jianqin Yan et al.

Summary: An autophagy-induced intracellular signaling fractional nano-drug system was developed to co-deliver RAPA and 9NC. RAPA induced autophagy and improved tumor cell sensitivity, while the secondary nucleus-targeting micelles delivered 9-NC directly to the nucleus, enhancing the anti-tumor efficacy. The proposed system demonstrated high cytotoxicity in vitro and in vivo.

Spatiotemporal Tracing of the Cellular Internalization Process of Rod-Shaped Nanostructures

Yi-Feng Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the internalization behaviors of rod-shaped nanostructures with different aspect ratios using atomic force microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and molecular dynamic simulation. It revealed that gold nanorods are endocytosed in an intermittent rotation manner and the internalization force and time are positively correlated with the aspect ratios. The study also found that internalization speed is negatively correlated with internalization time.

Preparation of Low-Molecular-Weight Fucoidan with Anticoagulant Activity by Photocatalytic Degradation Method

Yihui Qi et al.

Summary: In this study, a photocatalytic method was successfully used to degrade fucoidan, a sulfated polysaccharide. The degradation process did not strip the sulfate groups, but resulted in a reduction in the galactose/fucose ratio. Additionally, sulfated oligosaccharides were identified in the degradation products. The degraded products showed similar anticoagulant activity to the original polysaccharide.
