Estimation of Kerr angle based on weak measurement with two pointers

Lan Luo et al.

Summary: In this paper, a weak measurement method using two pointers is proposed to estimate the magneto-optical Kerr angle, which is robust to ellipticity. The double pointers, namely the amplified displacement shift and intensity of the post-selected light beam, can be directly output by a detector. It is demonstrated that the product of the double pointers is only related to the phase variation and independent of amplitude errors, making it effective in extracting phase information and shielding amplitude noise.

Toward incompatible quantum limits on multiparameter estimation

Binke Xia et al.

Summary: Achieving ultimate precision for multiple parameters simultaneously in quantum physics is a challenging task due to the Heisenberg uncertainty principle. This study proposes a criterion for multiparameter estimation that offers a possible solution by increasing the variances of parameter generators. Experimental results demonstrate the estimation of spatial displacement and angular tilt of light simultaneously, achieving precisions of 1.45 nm and 4.08 nrad. These findings provide insight into the role of the Heisenberg uncertainty principle in multiparameter estimation and contribute to quantum metrology applications.

A potential third-generation gravitational-wave detector based on autocorrelative weak-value amplification

Jing-Hui Huang et al.

Summary: In this paper, we propose a potential third-generation gravitational wave detector based on autocorrelative weak-value amplification (AWVA) for GW detection with a strain of h(g) = 4 x 10(-25) root Hz(-1). By passing through an 11-bounce delay line, 10-km arm-length, zero-area Sagnac interferometer, a GW event induces a phase difference Delta phi, which is then amplified using AWVA. Theoretical investigation shows that AWVA can demonstrate a measurable sensitivity within the frequency band of interest, and the robustness of WVA has promising potential in mitigating the effects of Gaussian noises.

Optimization of parameter measurement precision with precoupling-assisted weak-value amplification

Manchao Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper improves the precision of estimating an unknown parameter by introducing a precoupling process with properly chosen interaction operators. By tracking the meter wave functions, it is found that the improvement in estimation precision comes from a precoupling induced modulation of the meter wave function, reaching the most sensitive regime with respect to the parameter. The estimation error is effectively suppressed by averaging the estimations resulted from different initial meter states. These results are demonstrated through a numerical simulation compared to the standard weak-value amplification scheme.

Ultra-low noise phase measurement of fiber optic sensors via weak value amplification

Yue Liu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a low noise phase measurement of a fiber optic sensor using weak value amplification. The system has a wideband frequency response and good linearity, with a lower noise floor compared to existing sensors. The results show a minimum detectable signal of 5.6 x 10(-6) rad (1 Hz) and 8 x 10(-9) rad (1 kHz). A comparison experiment also reveals that the proposed system has a noise level two orders of magnitude lower than traditional interferometric fiber optic sensors. With its low noise characteristics, the system holds promise in weak signal detection applications such as underwater acoustic signal detection, seismic wave detection, and mineral resource exploration.

Autocorrelative weak-value amplification and simulating the protocol under strong Gaussian noise

Jing-Hui Huang et al.

Summary: In this article, a modified weak-measurement protocol called autocorrelative weak-value amplification (AWVA) is introduced and numerically evaluated. The AWVA approach improves the sensitivity of optical quantum metrology by increasing the orthogonality between preselection and postselection states. Simulation results demonstrate that the AWVA approach outperforms the standard technique in terms of precision under strong noise.

Fisher information analysis on weak-value-amplification metrology using optical coherent states

Yingxin Liu et al.

Summary: In this work, we find that using the optical coherent state as a meter, weak-value-amplification (WVA) measurement can outperform the conventional measurement. We also show that the postselection procedure involved in the WVA scheme can make a mixture of coherent states work better than a pure coherent state with identical average photon numbers. This postselection strategy can also result in the precision of Heisenberg scaling with the photon numbers without using expensive quantum resources.

Modified weak-value-amplification technique for measuring a mirror's velocity based on the Vernier effect

Jing-Hui Huang et al.

Summary: In this study, a modified weak-value amplification technique was proposed to measure the velocity of a mirror based on the Vernier effect. By using two cascaded Michelson interferometers, the sensitivity and signal-to-noise ratio were enhanced. The results showed that the modified technique had better SNR and sensitivity compared to the traditional technique, and it could be a viable alternative beyond the resolution limit. Furthermore, the principles of the Vernier effect could be applied to improve the sensitivity and SNR in measuring other quantities with the traditional technique.

Exchange bias without directional anisotropy in permalloy/CoO bilayers

Summary: This study utilizes transverse ac susceptibility measurements to investigate the magnetic anisotropy in ferromagnet and antiferromagnet bilayers. The research reveals that thin Py exhibits unidirectional anisotropy, which becomes negligible with increasing Py thickness. Additional magnetoresistance measurements, magneto-optical imaging, and micromagnetic simulations suggest that these behaviors are likely related to asymmetry in spin-flop distribution in CoO during Py magnetization reversal.
