Oxygen vacancy driven luminescence, ferromagnetic and electronic structure properties of Eu doped CeO2 nanoparticles

N. S. Leel et al.

Summary: Nanoparticles of CeO2 and rare-earth cation Eu-doped Ceria Ce1-xEuxO2 (x = 0.03, 0.05, and 0.07) were prepared by chemical co-precipitation route and investigated for their various properties. The doped nanoparticles showed strain and phase maintained structures, with crystallite sizes between 13 and 26 nm. X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy analyses confirmed the replacement of Ce with Eu in different oxidation states, as well as the correlation between oxygen vacancies and Eu doping concentration. The formation of complexes involving host and doped cations, mediated by oxygen vacancies, indicated the presence of F0, F+, and F2+ centres.

The Functional and Application Possibilities of Starch/Chitosan Polymer Composites Modified by Graphene Oxide

Magdalena Krystyjan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the functional properties and degradation rate of bionanocomposites made of starch/chitosan/graphene oxide (GO) using a green synthesis method. It also explores the toxicity and effects on pathogenic microflora during storage of meat food products. The results indicate that the composites have weak barrier properties but are similar to biological systems. Chitosan-containing composites demonstrate good optical properties and high barrier performance, making them suitable for packaging applications. Additionally, the starch and chitosan films show relatively high biodegradability, lack toxicity, and provide a high barrier against many microorganisms, suggesting great potential for use in the food industry.
