Efficient removal of impurities from phosphogypsum during preparation of & alpha;-hemihydrate gypsum

Qingjun Guan et al.

Summary: In this study, we achieved efficient removal of co-crystalline phosphorus impurities from PG and obtained high-value-added products through phase transformation. The complete release of co-crystalline P during the phase transition allowed for effective elimination of P impurities. By regulating the phase transformation and P species, the leaching efficiency of P reached 83.8% in Na2SO4-H2SO4 solutions. Additionally, controlling the size and shape of a-HH through seeding further increased the leaching efficiency to above 97%. This work provided a cost-effective method for clean and high-value utilization of industrial gypsum residues.

Solidification/stabilization and separation/extraction treatments of environmental hazardous components in electrolytic manganese residue: A review

Tongyuan Yang et al.

Summary: Electrolytic manganese residue (EMR), a by-product of electrolytic manganese metal production, contains hazardous components such as ammonia nitrogen, soluble manganese, and heavy metals. Despite numerous treatment methods proposed, there is still no mature and economical industrial process for treating EMR. Previous studies on separation/extraction (S/E) and solidification/stabilization (S/S) treatments highlight the importance of external field enhancement and synergy of multiple solid wastes to improve efficiency and treatment capacity. Achievements have been made in manganese treatment, but challenges remain regarding ammonia nitrogen in EMR.

Electrolytic manganese residue disposal based on basic burning raw material: Heavy metals solidification/stabilization and long-term stability

Dejun He et al.

Summary: Solidification/stabilization is an effective method to treat electrolytic manganese residue (EMR), and the use of basic burning raw material (BRM) has been found to successfully solidify/stabilize EMR. This study explores the mechanisms behind the solidification/stabilization process, focusing on the behavior of Mn2+ and NH4+ ions, the characterization of hydrated BRM and S/S EMR, as well as the long-term leaching behavior and changes in phase and morphology. The results show that the S/S process enhances the long-term stability of EMR, with reduced leaching concentrations and migration of Mn2+ ions, and the solidification/stabilization of other heavy metals through substitution and encapsulation.

Enhanced manganese leaching from electrolytic manganese residue by electrochemical process and Na2SO3

Zhisheng Zhao et al.

Summary: In this study, the leaching efficiency of manganese from electrolytic manganese residue (EMR) was improved using Na2SO3 and electric field. The results showed that the leaching efficiency of manganese reached 96.63%, which was higher than leaching with H2SO4 and electric field. The kinetic results indicated that the process is controlled by a mixture of external diffusion interfaces and chemical reactions, with an activation energy of 19.68 kJ/mol. Na2SO3 and electric field enhanced the leaching of manganese by removing the compound salts layer wrapped around the outside of manganese and reducing the release of high-valent manganese to divalent manganese. This study provides a novel approach for the utilisation of EMR.
