Application of remote sensing techniques in lithological and mineral exploration: discrimination of granitoids bearing iron and corundum deposits in southeastern Banyo, Adamawa region-Cameroon

Safianou Ousmanou et al.

Summary: By using Landsat 8 OLI data, field data, and remote sensing traditional mapping techniques, it is possible to discriminate granitoids bearing iron and corundum mineral deposits in the southeastern part of Banyo, Cameroon. The application of classification algorithms such as maximum likelihood and spectral angle mapper to Landsat 8 OLI data in the visible, near-infrared, and shortwave infrared bands proved to be effective in identifying potential locations of these deposits. Additionally, the integration of Landsat 8 OLI and field data allows for the identification of prospective lithological units, mineral deposits, and exploration targets, reducing the need for time-consuming field reconnaissance.

Mineral Prospectivity Mapping of Porphyry Copper Deposits Based on Remote Sensing Imagery and Geochemical Data in the Duolong Ore District, Tibet

Yufeng Fu et al.

Summary: Several valuable porphyry copper deposits have been discovered in the Duolong ore district, Tibet, China. Remote sensing imagery can effectively identify hydrothermal alteration minerals related to copper mineralization. This study used a deep learning convolutional neural network model to conduct data-driven prospectivity modelling, achieving an accuracy of 0.956. Field reconnaissance verified four prospective sites, demonstrating the feasibility of using deep learning-based methods in porphyry copper deposit prospecting.

Abhilash Singh et al.

Summary: This review provides a comprehensive summary of different approaches, including in-situ, remote sensing, and machine learning, to estimate soil moisture. The analysis shows that Time-Domain Reflectometry (TDR) is the most commonly used in-situ instrument, remote sensing is the preferred application, and random forest is the widely applied algorithm. The review also discusses the potential of using NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) mission images and physics-informed and automated machine learning models for higher resolution soil moisture prediction.

Exploration indicators of the Jiama porphyry-skarn deposit, southern Tibet, China

Wenbao Zheng et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the innovative aspects of whole-rock geochemical data analysis, magnetic susceptibility modeling, and high-precision magnetic survey in assisting the exploration of the Jiama porphyry-skarn deposit in southern Tibet, China. By improving the geological understanding of thrust-nappe structures, hydrothermal fluid pathways, and magma mixing, the researchers were able to determine the formation mechanisms of skarn and the location of the concealed porphyry system. The integration of geochemical and geological data allowed for the identification of exploration indicators that can guide ore exploration in the region.

Fusion of Remote Sensing, Magnetometric, and Geological Data to Identify Polymetallic Mineral Potential Zones in Chakchak Region, Yazd, Iran

Ali Akbar Aali et al.

Summary: The fusion of remote sensing, geophysical, and geological data is a robust, reliable, and low-cost approach for identifying high potential zones of polymetallic mineralization. This study successfully identified hydrothermal alteration mineral zones, intrusive masses, faults, and lineaments in the Chakchak region of Iran using Sentinel-2 and Landsat 7 remote sensing data, aerial magnetic geophysical data, and geological data. Several high potential zones of polymetallic mineralization were confirmed through field campaigns and drilling programs.

Remote Sensing and Mineralogical Analyses: A First Application to the Highly Active Hydrothermal Discharge Area of Pisciarelli in the Campi Flegrei Volcanic Field (Italy)

Teresa Caputo et al.

Summary: This paper explores the relationship between acidic sulfate alteration, geostructural frameworks, and geomorphological changes in active volcanic hydrothermal systems. The study focuses on the Pisciarelli area in the Campi Flegrei volcano, where diffuse acidic sulfate alteration and hydrothermal dynamics have been causing landscape deterioration since 2012. The authors utilized various methods, including TLS, photogrammetry, geological field work, and mineralogical and geochemical analysis, to characterize and monitor altered rock outcrops. The findings reveal significant volumetric changes in the mostly damaged and altered fault scarp, mainly due to hydrothermal alteration induced by gas emissions and meteoric infiltration.
