The effect of controller selection in collision avoidance system on fuel consumption for unmanned surface vessel: a case study

Gokhan Budak

Summary: A proposed mathematical model has been developed to avoid obstacles on a ship's route, including fixed and moving obstacles. The model consists of a manoeuvring model (MMG) and controller parts (MPC and PD controllers). Turning and zigzag tests were conducted to validate the model, and the results were used to drive the control algorithm. A course with obstacles was determined for the case study, and path-following simulations were performed using the controllers. The ship successfully reached the target coordinates with no collisions, and the fuel consumption varied based on the controller selection.

Development of ship collision avoidance system and sea trial test for autonomous ship

Donggyun Kim et al.

Summary: This study developed a Samsung Autonomous Ship (SAS) system for ship collision avoidance. The system includes a collision-avoidance algorithm that calculates collision risk, uses the isochrone method, and searches for optimal routes. It can visualize the optimal route and reflect user parameters in real time. Sea trial tests were conducted to prove the effectiveness of the SAS system, and the results showed that it successfully avoided collisions and arrived safely at its destination.
