Side-Chain Length and Dispersity in ROMP Polymers with Pore-Generating Side Chains for Gas Separations

Francesco M. Benedetti et al.

Summary: Bottlebrush polymers with flexible backbones and rigid side chains have been found to exhibit excellent performance in gas separation. This study investigates the effects of side-chain length and dispersity on gas transport properties and plasticization resistance by synthesizing polymers with different side-chain lengths. It was observed that as the side-chain length increased, the surface area and gas permeability of the polymers increased while the gas selectivity loss was minimal. Additionally, an increase in side-chain length also led to improved plasticization resistance.

An Ion-Pairing Approach to Stereoselective Metal-Free Ring-Opening Metathesis Polymerization

Xuejin Yang et al.

Summary: Research has found a simple method to control alkene stereochemistry in photoredox mediated metal-free ring-opening metathesis polymerization. Ion-pairing, initiator sterics, and solvation effects each have a profound impact on polynorbornene's stereochemistry. By adjusting reaction conditions, it is possible to control the cis or trans alkene content of PNB.

Access to Highly Stereodefined 1,4-cis-Polydienes by a [Ni/Mg] Orthogonal Tandem Catalytic Polymerization

Daniele Fiorito et al.

Summary: A [Ni/Mg]-catalyzed orthogonal tandem polymerization has been developed, starting from enol phosphates and leading to 1,4-cis-polydienes with selectivities up to 99%. By simple structural modifications of the monomeric unit, elastomeric or crystalline materials can be obtained. This tandem approach provides a straightforward and efficient way to enforce diversity and selectivity in diene polymerization while retaining a fair degree of control.
