Evaluation of an artificial intelligence system for diagnosing scaphoid fracture on direct radiography

Summary: The aim of this study is to evaluate the diagnostic performance of artificial intelligence using convolutional neural networks (CNN) for detecting scaphoid fractures on anteroposterior wrist radiographs. The results showed that CNN had high sensitivity and specificity in identifying scaphoid fractures, and its performance was comparable to that of an inexperienced orthopaedic specialist and better than an emergency department physician.
