Prediction of thermal degradation of biopolymers in biomass under pyrolysis atmosphere by means of machine learning

Summary: Motivated by Finland's transition to circular economy and carbon neutrality, this study investigates the environmental aspects of resource productivity, environmental-related technologies, and export intensity using various statistical approaches and long-term estimators. The findings suggest that increasing raw material productivity can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, while environmental-related technologies also play a significant role. However, economic growth measured by GDP has a negative impact on environmental sustainability in the long run. Relevant policy measures are recommended to guide decision makers in achieving circular economy and carbon zero goals in Finland.

Evaluation and determinants of total unified efficiency of China's manufacturing sector under the carbon neutrality target

Summary: China has one of the strongest manufacturing industries in the world, but the carbon emissions from its production pose a serious threat to the environment. This study evaluates the efficiency of China's manufacturing industry using data envelopment analysis and examines the factors that affect its efficiency using a panel regression model. The results show regional and sectoral heterogeneity in efficiency, with slower growth in efficiency in the western and inland regions compared to the coastal areas, and lower efficiency in the light manufacturing industry compared to heavy manufacturing. Factors such as labor quality, industrial agglomeration, and environmental regulation positively impact efficiency, while R&D investment and openness have a negative impact. The study suggests policy measures to focus on nurturing specialized talent, promoting point-to-point manufacturing agglomeration, and unifying emission standards nationwide, while also being cautious of emissions from foreign-funded manufacturing enterprises and setting emission standards for manufactured goods exports.

Energy-environmental-economic assessment of green retrofit policy to achieve 2050 carbon-neutrality in South Korea: Focused on residential buildings

Summary: In order to achieve the carbon emission reduction target (CERT) by 2030 and carbon-neutrality by 2050, it is crucial to reduce the emission gap in the private building sector. However, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukraine war pose threats to the global green remodeling policy (GRP). This study analyzed the energy consumption savings, GHG emission reduction, and net present value of applying green remodeling to a private building, and found that the current policy may not be sufficient to achieve the CERT and carbon-neutrality goals.

Dynamic impact of renewable and non-renewable energy consumption on CO2 emission and economic growth in Saudi Arabia: Fresh evidence from wavelet coherence analysis

Summary: This paper examines the co-movements between renewable and non-renewable energy sources, CO2 emissions, and GDP per capita in Saudi Arabia. The results indicate that non-renewable energy sources lead to an expansion of carbon emissions in the frequency domain. In the long term, fossil fuels have a significant causal relationship with economic growth, while renewable energy promotes economic growth and reduces carbon emissions at different frequencies. Wavelet analysis shows clear differences in all variables in the time-frequency space. Non-renewable energy sources support economic growth and contribute to pollution, while renewable energy consumption has a significant impact on reducing carbon emissions and promoting short-term economic growth. Multiple wavelet outcomes suggest that renewable energy not only stimulates economic growth but also promotes a sustainable and cleaner environment. The combined effects of non-renewable energy sources increase carbon emissions. Therefore, it is advised that the Saudi government promotes green energy investments and accelerates the transition to renewable energy production, as it offers advantages and opportunities in terms of the environment and socio-economic development.

Toward the carbon neutrality: Forest carbon sinks and its spatial spillover effect in China

Summary: Developing forest carbon sinks is crucial for China to achieve carbon neutrality, but their development cannot happen in isolation due to spatial dependence in forest resource distribution. This study uses spatial panel data to establish an econometric model and identifies transregional spillover effects of forest carbon sinks. The results show spatial correlation characteristics among forest carbon sinks, which are influenced by ecological factors, economic development structure, and related policies. Forest area proportion and urbanization level have a positive correlation with forest carbon sinks, while deforestation and transport infrastructure level have a negative effect. Implementing carbon trading pilot programs can promote local forest carbon sinks but has a negative spillover effect on other regions. Environmental regulation has a positive spillover effect on neighboring regions, while forestry production efficiency has a negative spillover effect. Policy implications are proposed based on the results and China's realistic characteristics.

Maximizing load capacity factor through a carbon-neutral environment via a simulation of carbon peak
