The impact of severe plastic deformations obtained by hydrostatic extrusion on the machinability of ultrafine-grained Ti grade 2 intended for fasteners

Jacek Skiba et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of hydrostatic extrusion on the machinability of Ti grade 2 in the turning process. The results showed that the microstructure of Ti significantly refined after deformation, resulting in improved mechanical properties. Cutting force analysis revealed that microstructure refinement had an impact on the machinability at greater cutting depths. Application tests indicated that Ti after hydrostatic extrusion had lower susceptibility to buckling during threading and achieved the required thread tolerances.

Comparative study of copper and graphite electrodes performance in Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) of die steel

Puneet Kumar Sonker et al.

Summary: Electro discharge machine (EDM) is used for machining difficult-to-machine hard and conductive materials. This study investigates the effects of parameters on surface roughness, material removal rate, and white layer in EDM using high carbon high chromium die-steel as the workpiece and electrolytic copper and pure graphite as the tools.

Optimization and parametric analysis of Titanium Grade 2 in EDM using graphite tool as an electrode

Britto G. Joseph et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the electric discharge machining of Titanium Grade 2 using Graphite as a tool electrode. The experimental process was planned using Response Surface Methodology (RSM) and ANOVA was used to calculate the response of output parameters to input parameters. The conclusion was reached by comparing response values to optimum results from literature surveys, with SEM images taken to analyze the optimal parameter values.
