Bulk Physical Properties of a Magnetic Weyl Semimetal Candidate NdAlGe Grown by a Laser Floating-Zone Method

Naoki Kikugawa et al.

Summary: In this study, single crystals of a magnetic Weyl semimetal candidate NdAlGe were successfully grown using a floating-zone technique with laser diodes as the heat source. The crystals showed magnetic order at 13.5 K and were characterized for their physical properties using various measurements. The study revealed the anisotropic magnetoelasticity, magneto-entropy, and charge transport induced by the magnetic order in NdAlGe.

Observation of Fermi arcs and Weyl nodes in a noncentrosymmetric magnetic Weyl semimetal

Anup Pradhan Sakhya et al.

Summary: CeAlSi is identified as a new noncentrosymmetric magnetic Weyl semimetal through angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and first-principles, density-functional theory based calculations. Surface-sensitive vacuum ultraviolet ARPES data confirm the presence of surface Fermi arcs, providing conclusive evidence for the existence of the Weyl semimetallic state in CeAlSi. Bulk-sensitive soft-x-ray ARPES measurements further observe bulk Weyl cones at the Fermi arc terminations in CeAlSi. These results suggest CeAlSi as a unique platform for investigating exotic quantum phenomena resulting from the interaction of topology and magnetism.

Stripe helical magnetism and two regimes of anomalous Hall effect in NdAlGe

Hung-Yu Yang et al.

Summary: We investigate the magnetic and electronic transport properties of NdAlGe, a Weyl semimetal which breaks inversion and time-reversal symmetries. The material displays an incommensurate spin density wave and transitions to a commensurate ferrimagnetic state at low temperatures. Small-angle neutron scattering reveals the formation of ferrimagnetic domains with different characteristic length scales in real space. Interestingly, unlike NdAlSi, NdAlGe exhibits two different regimes of anomalous Hall effect, one governed by intrinsic Berry curvature and the other by extrinsic disorders/spin fluctuations.

Field-induced tricritical phenomenon and magnetic structures in magnetic Weyl semimetal candidate NdAlGe

Jun Zhao et al.

Summary: We carried out a systematic study of the magnetic properties and critical behaviors of non-centrosymmetric NdAlGe. Our results show strong magnetic anisotropy along the c-axis and absolute isotropy in the ab-plane. By analyzing the critical exponents and scaling behavior, we constructed a H-T phase diagram and revealed a field-induced tricritical behavior. This study provides insights into the delicate competition and balance between variable interactions and couplings in NdAlGe.

Quantum Oscillations in Noncentrosymmetric Weyl Semimetal SmAlSi

Weizheng Cao et al.

Summary: This study presents a comprehensive investigation of the structural, magnetic, and transport properties of noncentrosymmetric RAlSi (R = Sm, Ce), and reveals that these materials may be new magnetic Weyl semimetal candidates. The experimental results show that both samples exhibit nonsaturated magnetoresistance at low temperature and magnetic field, and the carrier densities undergo significant change around magnetic transition temperatures.

NdAlSi: A magnetic Weyl semimetal candidate with rich magnetic phases and atypical transport properties

Jin-Feng Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, we characterized a newly proposed MWSM candidate NdAlSi using experimental measurements and theoretical calculations. NdAlSi exhibits unique magnetic behavior by breaking both time-reversal and spatial inversion symmetries. Our results indicate that 4f-electron-based MWSMs could serve as an important platform for exploring novel quantum phenomena arising from the interaction between magnetism and electron topology.

Weyl, Dirac and high-fold chiral fermions in topological quantum matter

M. Zahid Hasan et al.

Summary: Weyl fermions, proposed in 1929, were recently detected as collective electronic excitations in topological quantum materials, sparking a surge of experimental and theoretical explorations. These explorations have led to the discovery of emergent Weyl fermions, high-fold chiral fermions, topological Weyl lines, and related Dirac phases, enhancing our understanding of Weyl physics in condensed matter systems.

Infinite Berry Curvature of Weyl Fermi Arcs

Dennis Wawrzik et al.

Summary: The study shows that Weyl Fermi arcs are generally accompanied by a divergence of the surface Berry curvature that scales as 1/k(2), relating to the distance to a hot line in the surface Brillouin zone connecting the projection of Weyl nodes with opposite chirality. The emergence of this surface Berry curvature is mainly determined by the velocity tilt of the bulk Weyl dispersion towards the surface of interest.

Noncollinear ferromagnetic Weyl semimetal with anisotropic anomalous Hall effect

Hung-Yu Yang et al.

Summary: Research on novel electromagnetic responses such as the anomalous Hall effect in ferromagnetic Weyl semimetals shows promise. CeAlSi, a FM-WSM material, stands out for its noncentrosymmetric lattice, noncollinear FM ordering, and novel AHE that is anisotropic between the easy and hard magnetic axes. This material also exhibits large FM domains, offering potential for exploring device applications and the interplay between Weyl nodes and FM domain walls.
