Impacts of battery energy storage technologies and renewable integration on the transition in the New York State

Wei-Chieh Huang et al.

Summary: This study proposes an integrated optimal power flow and multi-criteria decision-making model to evaluate the operational performance of renewable energy technologies and identify critical features of energy storage system technologies for enhancing renewable energy integration. The results show that the lead-acid battery requires additional renewable energy capacity compared to the lithium-ion battery to achieve zero carbon dioxide emissions, and the vanadium redox flow battery performs the best in reaching the emission target in 2040. These findings can serve as a reference for future energy and power system planning.

Green energy, non-renewable energy, financial development and economic growth with carbon footprint: heterogeneous panel evidence from cross-country

Najia Saqib

Summary: This study examines the relationship between green energy, non-renewable energy, financial development, and economic growth with carbon footprint, using panel data from 63 emerging and developed economies. The findings show that, over the long run, all variables are cointegrated. Non-renewable energy consumption leads to carbon footprint, while green energy reduces environmental degradation and supports the reduction of environmental hazards. Financial development has a significant negative effect on environmental degradation.

Covid-19 and Optimal Portfolio Selection for Investment in Sustainable Development Goals

Naoyuki Yoshino et al.

Summary: The Covid-19 pandemic and global economic recession have resulted in a decrease in global energy demand and a collapse in fossil fuel prices, making renewable energy projects less competitive. The definition of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) varies among different consulting companies, leading to potential distortion in investment portfolios. A global tax on pollution and waste, such as CO2, NOx, and plastics, can help achieve the desired asset portfolio allocation.
