Trivalent antimony removal using carbonaceous nanomaterial loaded with zero-valent bimetal (iron/copper) and their effect on seed growth

Jianghao Ji et al.

Summary: This study developed a new nanomaterial, sludge biochar loaded with zero-valent bimetal, to remove trivalent antimony from water. The adsorption performance and influencing factors of three different nanomaterials were investigated. The results showed that the nanomaterial loaded with zero-valent bimetal had the best adsorption performance at a solution pH of 3. The adsorption process was endothermic and the presence of coexisting ions inhibited the adsorption. Additionally, the nanomaterials promoted seed germination and growth. The study also found that the removal of trivalent antimony was achieved through the synergistic action of adsorption behavior and redox reaction.

Optimisation of preparation conditions and removal mechanism for trivalent antimony by biochar-supported nano zero-valent iron

Jianghao Ji et al.

Summary: In this study, the preparation conditions of nano zero-valent iron biochar (nZVI-BC) were optimized for the effective removal of Sb(III) from aqueous solutions. The prepared 5-1nZVI-BC and 7-4nZVI-BC showed significantly higher adsorption capacities for Sb(III) compared to pristine BC, with an increase of 457% and 157% respectively. The adsorption process followed both monolayer and multilayer adsorption, as indicated by the good fit of the Langmuir and Freundlich models. The adsorption mechanism involved the formation of antimonite/antimonate and the attachment of precipitates such as FeSb2O4 and FeSbO4 on the biochar surface. The screened nZVI-BC samples also demonstrated promising reusability and recyclability.

Mesoporous activated carbon from mangosteen (Garcinia mangostana) peels by H3PO4 assisted microwave: Optimization, characterization, and adsorption mechanism for methylene blue dye removal

Ali H. Jawad et al.

Summary: This study reported a facile method to synthesize mangosteen peels activated carbon (MSPAC) with high carbon content and mesoporous structure. MSPAC showed excellent adsorption capability for methylene blue (MB) dye removal from aqueous solutions. The optimization of adsorption conditions using response surface methodology resulted in the best parameters for maximum MB removal. The kinetic and equilibrium results were best represented by the PSO and Langmuir models, respectively. Thermodynamic findings indicated that the adsorption process was spontaneous and endothermic. This work highlights the significance of MSPAC as an environmentally friendly adsorbent for removing cationic synthetic dyes from polluted water.
