Summary: Since 2013, the H7N9 avian influenza viruses (AIVs) have caused over 1500 human infections and a mortality rate of approximately 40%. Despite vaccination efforts, the viruses continue to evolve rapidly in poultry and some strains have the ability to escape vaccine-induced immunity. Recent analysis showed that the H7N9 AIVs from the early epidemic waves had dual receptor binding characteristics, but more recent strains lost or retained weak human receptor binding. The viruses also demonstrated increased acid stability but reduced thermal stability compared to earlier strains, and showed poor cross-reactivity with human monoclonal antibodies and ferret antisera.

Summary: In January 2022, a significant number of Cape cormorants in Namibia's west coast were found dead, and subsequent testing confirmed the presence of H5N1 avian influenza. Genomic and phylogenetic analysis revealed that the viruses belonged to clade 2.3.4.4b and were closely related to viruses identified in Lesotho and Botswana in 2021. This study provides the first genomic characterization of H5N1 viruses in Namibia and highlights the significance for poultry disease management and wildlife conservation in the region.

Summary: This paper explores the dynamics of a diffusion epidemic SIRI system with different dispersal rates. The authors derive the overall solution of the system using L-p theory and Young's inequality, and prove the uniform boundedness of the solution. They discuss the asymptotic smoothness of the semi-flow and the existence of the global attractor. In addition, they define the basic reproduction number in a spatially uniform environment and analyze the threshold dynamic behaviors for disease extinction or continuous persistence. The authors also study the asymptotic profiles of the system when the spread rate of susceptible or infected individuals approaches zero, providing insights into the dynamic characteristics of the model in a bounded space domain with zero flux boundary conditions.

Summary: This paper studies the global dynamics of a discontinuous delayed model of malicious signal transmission in wireless sensor networks under the framework of differential inclusion. The local stability of two types of steady states are investigated for the discontinuous system by studying the corresponding characteristic equation. The sufficient conditions for the existence of two types of globally asymptotically stable steady states are obtained for the discontinuous system by using the comparison arguments method. Furthermore, the optimal control of the discontinuous system is investigated by using Pontryagin's maximum principle. Numeric simulations are conducted to illustrate the main theoretical results. The obtained results contribute to better control and prediction of the spread of malicious signal transmission in wireless sensor networks.

Summary: In this paper, a time-periodic reaction-diffusion model is proposed to describe the transmission of avian influenza virus between birds, poultry, and human population, considering environment transmission and spatial heterogeneity. Well-posedness of solutions is studied, including the existence and boundedness of global solutions and the existence of global attractor. The basic reproduction number R-0 is defined and proven to be a threshold determining the global dynamics of the model. Furthermore, the dynamic behavior of the autonomous reaction-diffusion model is analyzed, and the existence and global attractivity of endemic equilibrium are obtained.

Summary: This study investigates the global dynamics of a controlled discontinuous diffusive SIR epidemic system under Neumann boundary conditions, including the conditions for solution existence and boundedness, as well as the existence of constant equilibria. The research also examines the global dynamical behavior of the controlled diffusive epidemic system.
