Violuric acid carbon dots as a highly fluorescence probe for ultrasensitive determination of Zn (II) in tomato paste

Lawen Abdulsatar Esmail et al.

Summary: Zinc is an essential metal in biological systems, making the determination of zinc in food samples important. Fluorescent carbon dots prepared using violuric acid showed strong violet fluorescence under 365nm UV radiation, attributed to increased nitrogen content in the CD structure. The CDs were successfully used for zinc ion sensing through fluorescence quenching. The hydrothermal carbonization reaction temperature and time of violuric acid were optimized for better CD performance. The developed approach demonstrated exceptional sensitivity and selectivity to Zn2+ at 25°C, with a low LOD of 0.32 nM. The sensor was successfully used for determining Zn2+ ions in tomato paste samples, as confirmed by comparison with ICP results.

Vortex-assisted sequential liquid-phase micro-extraction of E127 and E129 in foodstuffs and pharmaceuticals

Abdullah Taner Bisgin

Summary: In this study, a sequential liquid-phase micro-extraction (LPME) method using 1-pentanol and ion-pair agent was developed for the separation and determination of Erythrosine (E127) and Allura red (E129) in foodstuffs and pharmaceuticals. The methods involved micro-extraction using 1-pentanol for E127 and an alkanol-based ion-pair solvent with tetra-pentyl ammonium bromide for E129. The parameters of the methods were optimized, and the extraction mechanisms were elucidated. The proposed technique was validated and applied to commercially available samples in Turkish markets and pharmacies.

Advances in Biosensing of Chemical Food Contaminants Based on the MOFs-Graphene Nanohybrids

Ameer A. A. Alameri et al.

Summary: Food safety is a global challenge, and the demand for reliable, rapid, and sensitive detection technology is high. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) combined with graphene-derived nanomaterials show promise as an alternative and complementary analytical technique. However, the stability and electrical conductivity of traditional MOFs are insufficient. Using graphene-derived nanomaterials as templates for MOFs can improve their stability and conductivity.

A ratiometric fluorescence sensor for triticonazole based on the encapsulated boron-doped and phosphorous-doped carbon dots in the metal organic framework

Roghayeh Shokri et al.

Summary: In this work, a dual-emission ratiometric fluorescence sensor for triticonazole was developed by encapsulating boron-doped carbon dots (B-CDs) and phosphorous-doped green emitting CDs (P-CDs) into zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8). The sensor showed high sensitivity with a linear range from 10 to 400 nM and a detection limit of 4.0 nM for triticonazole, making it applicable for analysis of water and fruit juice samples. The advantages of ratiometric fluorescence measurements in terms of precision and accuracy were demonstrated in this study.

Fe3O4@PDA@PANI core-shell nanocomposites as a new adsorbent for simultaneous preconcentration of Tartrazine and Sunset Yellow by ultrasonic-assisted dispersive micro solid-phase extraction

Zahra Miri et al.

Summary: Novel magnetic Fe3O4@PDA@PANI core-shell nanoparticles were designed and fabricated for efficient adsorption of Sunset Yellow (SY) and Tartrazine (Tar), with simultaneous detection achieved using derivative spectrophotometric method. Under optimized conditions, the detection limits for SY and Tar were 0.2 and 0.5 ng mL(-1) respectively. The core-shell nanoparticles showed significant adsorption capacity and reusability, making the method favored for analysis of complex matrices.

Shuo Wang et al.

Summary: Thioctic acid-carbon dots were synthesized and used as a fluorescent turn-off-on probe to detect Mercury ions and thiophanate methyl. The sensor showed no interference from other common metal ions and pesticides, and exhibited low detection limits for Hg2+ and TM. It was successfully applied for detecting Hg2+ and TM in real water samples.
