MiRNA-93: a novel signature in human disorders and drug resistance

Bashdar Mahmud Hussen et al.

Summary: miRNA-93, encoded by a gene on chromosome 7q22.1, is a member of the miR-106b-25 family. It plays a role in the etiology of various diseases, including cancer and non-cancer disorders. Different studies have found that miRNA-93 has opposing roles in cancer, being downregulated in some cancers and up-regulated in others. This review provides an overview of miRNA-93's function in disease progression, its role as a prognostic biomarker in cancer, and its contribution to drug resistance.

Dysregulation of non-coding RNAs in Wilms tumor

Mohammad Taheri et al.

Summary: Wilms tumor, the most common pediatric kidney tumor, is associated with dysregulation of non-coding RNAs. Dysregulated miRNAs such as miR-200c, miR-155-5p, miR-1180, miR-22-3p, miR-483-5p, miR-140-5p, miR-92a-3p, miR-483-3p, miR-572, miR-539, and miR-613, as well as dysregulated long non-coding RNAs including CRNDE, XIST, SNHG6, MEG3, LINC00667, MEG8, DLGAP1-AS2, and SOX21-AS1, have been identified in this tumor. Additionally, circCDYL is down-regulated, while circ0093740 and circSLC7A6 are up-regulated in Wilms tumor. These dysregulated transcripts offer new insights into understanding the pathogenesis and developing targeted therapies for this pediatric tumor.

Exosomal circular RNAs: New player in breast cancer progression and therapeutic targets

Bashdar Mahmud Hussen et al.

Summary: Breast cancer is the most common malignant tumor in women. Exosomes are extracellular vesicles released via exocytosis and contain various molecules, including circular RNAs. Exosomal circRNAs can either promote or suppress cancer by interfering with biological pathways. The role of exosomal circRNAs in breast cancer progression and their potential as therapeutic targets and diagnostics is still unclear and requires further study.

The roles of Runx1 in skeletal development and osteoarthritis: A concise review

Yi Liu et al.

Summary: Runt-related transcription factor-1 (Runx1) is known for its essential functions in hematopoiesis and leukemia and has recently been found to play important roles in skeletal development and osteoarthritis (OA). Runx1 deficiency leads to embryonic developmental failure, while specific knockout of Runx1 in cartilage and bone cell lineages delays cartilage formation and impairs bone calcification. Runx1 can regulate the expression of genes including collagen type II and X, SRY-box transcription factor 9, aggrecan, and matrix metalloproteinase 13. Up-regulation of Runx1 improves joint homeostasis, even in pathological conditions. However, Runx1 is impaired in joints associated with osteoarthritis. Therefore, understanding the role of Runx1 could broaden our knowledge of key marker genes in skeletal development, and further understanding of Runx1 may help identify treatments for osteoarthritis.

NK-/T-cell lymphomas

Hua Wang et al.

Summary: Natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (NKTL) is a subtype of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-related non-Hodgkin lymphomas common in Asia and Latin America but rare elsewhere. The pathogenesis of NKTL is complex and incompletely understood, with treatments including radiation therapy and multi-drug chemotherapy. Advanced cases have a lower survival rate, and more effective therapies are needed for this type of lymphoma.
