Fluorescent/electrochemical dual-signal response biosensing strategy mediated by DNAzyme-ferrocene-triggered click chemistry for simultaneous rapid screening and quantitative detection of Vibrio parahaemolyticus

Shuai Wang et al.

Summary: To ensure food safety, rapid screening and quantitative detection of foodborne pathogens are essential. This study developed a dual-signal response biosensing strategy that combines visual fluorescent signal and quantitative electrochemical signal for simultaneous detection. A signal probe consisting of deoxyribozyme (DNAzyme)-ferrocene immobilized on MXene/gold nanobipyramid/antimicrobial peptide was used. The DNAzyme enabled a click reaction to produce visual fluorescent signal, while ferrocene provided an electrochemical detection signal to confirm foodborne pathogen contamination. This dual-signal biosensing strategy exhibited a wide detectable range and low detection limit, making it a useful tool for on-site detection of foodborne pathogens.

A dual-mode optical fiber sensor for SERS and fluorescence detection in liquid

Minglu Li et al.

Summary: In this paper, a dual-mode fiber sensor for Surface-enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) and fluorescence detection is proposed. The sensor is formed by a tapered optical fiber, half of the fiber tip surface is coated with Ag nanoparticles. By combining the Raman spectral features and the fluorescence intensity, the recognition and quantitation of target molecules were obtained reliably. It is the first time, to our knowledge, that the Raman-fluorescence dual-mode detection is realized in one single fiber, which was manufactured with micro-machinery techniques. It is a label-free, general-purpose fiber sensor, which can be applied for liquid biopsy, helping to diagnose and treat diseases in vivo.

Rapid detection of sulfonamide antibiotics residues in swine urine by surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy

Lulu Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) combined with a rapid pretreatment technique was used to determine sulfonamide antibiotics residue in swine urine. The results showed that the treatment with specific dosages of adsorbents (PSA, C-18, GCB) was an excellent approach for rapidly detecting the sulfonamide antibiotics residue. Qualitative and quantitative assessment of sulfadiazine and sulfathiazole was achieved by selecting specific Raman characteristic peaks. The study demonstrated the potential of SERS coupled with a quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe (QuEChERS) method for monitoring the quality and safety of sulfonamide antibiotics residue in swine urine.
