Chemical composition of Camellia chekiangoleosa Hu. seeds during ripening and evaluations of seed oils quality

Teng Wei et al.

Summary: This study investigates the changes in chemical composition of Camellia chekiangoleosa seeds during ripening. It finds that the oil content increases significantly during ripening, while the content of mono-unsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) increases and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) decreases. TOPSIS method is used to assess the quality of the seed oils collected at different time-points, and some superior clones are identified.

Characterizations and application potentials of the hemicelluloses in waste oil-tea camellia fruit shells from Southern China

Ning Tang et al.

Summary: In this study, hemicelluloses were extracted and characterized from oil-tea camellia fruit shell (CFS). The hemicelluloses in CFS were found to contain a high amount of xylose, along with other sugar units. The major chemical structures/types of CFS hemicelluloses were identified. The study highlights the potential application of CFS hemicelluloses in fine chemicals.

Ultrastructural elucidation of lignin macromolecule from different growth stages of Chinese pine

Qian Sun et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the morphological changes and lignin accumulation patterns in Chinese pine branches cell walls using CRM technology and characterized the structural characteristics of isolated lignin samples using NMR and GPC techniques. The results showed that adult pine branches accumulated more lignin, had higher molecular weights, and polymerized faster. The structural and chemical features of pine native lignin contribute to understanding biosynthetic pathways and the valorization and deconstruction of biomass.

Anatomy and lignin deposition of stone cell in Camellia oleifera shell during the young stage

Qianqian Wang et al.

Summary: The development of stone cells in Camellia oleifera shells originates from parenchymal cells, and as the fruit shell matures, the stone cell wall thickens and lignin content increases continuously. Fluorescent results indicate that G-lignin is widely distributed in the stone cell wall of the shell, while S-lignin deposition accounts for 48.59% of the cell wall area. FTIR spectra confirm the presence of G-S-lignin in Camellia oleifera shells.
